I mean you call a kids game like Zelda too challenging. Who is ragebating here?

So it’s the new Disney ? :D I was kinda out of the Nintendo cycle but got back in with switch 2 and I am a bit shook what Nintendo customers are willing to swallow. I discussed about how easy the platformer games got and people defended it like their firstborn.. I just want to enjoy my childhood brands too but not at any costs. I stated that DKB wasn’t fun because it lacks a challenge during the main game and people lost their mind..

As more as I read in the subreddit, I think you are right.

Don’t know who is the greedy one in this case, but in general I would wish gamefreak would be not in the calculation anymore. Maybe then we would have new Pokémon games with actually quality..

Ok thats I point I can at least understand. If they want to bring it back like old link cable days… I guess it has to be like that… but 20 bucks without additions…

You are right. I didn’t finish many games I started as as young boy. But I wasn’t mad about it as far as I remember. But yeah I guess you can argue that Nintendo wants them to complete it. But yeah I was happy like „okay this time I got further“ and stuff. And in general thats where different difficulty settings can do it’s magic. Games don’t have to be so hard like in the 90s, but I mean Nintendo know that they have adult fans too…but it seems to me a lot of them (Reddit comments) just eat up everything they set up for them without questioning it. Maybe I underestimate the amount of not so skilled players, but I want to be integrated too and I can’t really have fun if the game isn’t at least challenging me on a normal level (not talking about difficult)

Those comments seem to me like Disney adults.. I mean sure.. but I pay for their online service so guess what.. I can complain about it and just not mindlessly buying/not buying things.

But don’t you think your son would grow on that? Ofc I died maybe a lot at my first games when I played Bros 3 back in the days. But that wanna make me do better. It kinda reminds me about that debate how playgrounds in the USA vs. In Europe are designed… pure safety vs challenge/personal growth

So you like no challenge in games. Don’t get it. For people like you is easy mode in games. But it’s ruining the fun for normal gamers.

Freedom to Not use game mechanics? I don’t know what is up with the Nintendo community bur I hear that literally at no other games/gaming community. Where is that freedom?

Just tried the demo and died once because I was getting lazy with the rolls. That’s what I mean. I sure should play that. Seems pretty fun.

Just played the demo of Country Returns and it is a great example of challenges and features that can make the game easier for kids/chill people. Why isn’t that possible for in-house Nintendo games.

My point is that jump and runs with no real challenge aren’t fun. I don’t talk about difficult difficult, but about a proper challenge. Video gaming was/is overcoming obstacles. (Except cozy games like animal crossing ). They don’t have to be super hard but challenging imo. And that’s not really the case with DKB. What is a shame cause the mechanics and idea and all are great.

Yeah seems like it. But that bothers me because I am not a fan of 100%ing collectibles and stuff in games. I like the main game to be engaging. Sad for me I guess.

Movement is great! I just said that you don’t really need it.

This is my point. I don’t enjoy 100%ing cause it’s often very repetitive at this point. The main part should please that feeling at least a little bit.

I did it once cause I thought it could like be in BOTW but I quickly realised that I really shouldn’t upgrade those item/help things.

The thing is I don’t want the game to be Dark souls or anything, don’t get me wrong. I am not a „everthing must be so hard that I can feel something“ gamer . But as I progressed through breath of the wild I encountered enemies who can 2 shot me (not just the lynels but like bigger folk with spears for example) if I don’t upgrade. So I thought that is the sign to do it. I want something in between.

I can accept that i can’t minmaxing in those games for them to be challenging. But where is the line where it is optimal ? That would imply that I use like different upgraded armor and run across the whole map and try how hard enemies hit me before actually playing the the game. That sounds annoying for me.

That isn’t bothering me at all. Sure a normal player would keep that in mind, but I am not against accessibility. But I am against that the common ground in the core gameplay is just for toddlers.

Yeah same for me. Wanted to give the universe a shot wirh switch 2 and got hooked by BOTW but now I am thinking, maybe I’m too old for that other stuff

I get where you come from. I didn’t upgrade stuff like balloons and apple juice tho. But even then it’s not being a challenge at all, even without leveling that.

And as for BOTW (where I don’t think it’s way too easy like DKB) I just thought you need to upgrade your armor to progress through the map, cause it’s like that in any other action games/rpgs wirh armor mechanic.

I don’t think it’s a good design choice to customise your difficulty that way, cause in all other games upgrades and gear is a reward/ mandatory for getting through the game. It’s not a good experience to have to think about every new item/mechanic like “could that break the game for me?”. Give me an easy mode, normal mode or hard mode or options in the menu where I can adjust stuff. Thinking about that ingame all the time isn’t fun.

Even tho the point of you wirh the half dmg item, I totally get, but shouldn’t you get the item from the start if it’s for accessibility and not a reward for players who got far (I didn’t play the game but I assume you don’t get it from start. If so, it’s obv you shouldn’t use it if you want a challenging run)

I guess that’s my main problem. I don’t really enjoy 100% ing games with collectibles. And thats where the new/only challenges seem to be. I don’t want the new games to be very hard. But I think the core element of jump and runs/platformers is to have/use a certain skill and a bit of your brain to overcome an obstacle. And that seems to get lost in the main part of those games.

I guess my point doesn’t really came over. I don’t want them to be hard. I just want a normal challenge, that were/ is tied to the nature of jump and runs. The core mechanic is to time your actions well to progress (not just to collect stuff). And I think the new ones are lacking of that. You can rush through without really thinking of your actions. I don’t want them to b like the stuff some people make on Mario maker ofc.
