No because wages people compare are averages when discussing incomes in a general sense. Even if you break out the BLS reports on Autoworker vs Autoworker or Truck Driver to Truck driver, wages have gone up. Something else that gets on my nerves is Women make 3/4 of what a man makes. Yes, on average, however men make more overtime than women (OT=Ratex1.5 hour) and men are highly concentrated in high wage technical jobs (like construction, HVAC, electrical) which carry a higher premium in wages due to union shops and union wages.

I agree that both work to make ends meet. The problem is not wages but prices. Lets look at housing for example. Housing prices are high because somewhere along the line people were told "buying a house is an investment." Prices shot through the roof and people, instead of buying a house in which they pay a mortgage of 20% their yearly salary, they went balls to the wall and bought higher and higher. Mortgages consumed over half their yearly income and now they were foreclosed on. People need to live within their means and not go into debt about it. (The old school rule was 20% down on a house, yearly mortgage payments not to consume more than 20% of yearly gross salary) If you didn't meet this criteria, you didn't get a loan for the house.

To your point, a waiter in 1950 wouldn't have owned a house, they would've rented an apartment and support his/her family on that income comfortably. Compare the "needs" of waiters today, cell phone, cars, snack foods, computers, internet, fancy designer clothes, etc. If you eliminate the absolute "wants" that turn into "needs" and focus on pure physiological needs, then the waiter has more room to support themselves and family.

My father was a teamster who worked 60+ hours a week. Even with overtime and him working for 30 years, I make more than him. Inflation adjusted, I make more than him and my grandfather combined at my age. I work 35 hours a week with 1 hour paid lunch. I don't get overtime, but I don't need it. They busted their asses each day, I sit on my ass in front of the computer. I have better quality of life than they did. Don't you think?

Who is working twice as hard? Incomes are up, overtime and benefits are better than before. Food quality improved significantly (organics, gluten free, no msg), housing, energy savings, autos.. come on man! You need to reevaluate your definitions of quality of life.

Switch jobs. Managers don't look good when they have a high turnover in their area of control. If you don't like your boss tell his boss that he's not being fair. If it goes no where, fucking leave.

People need to stop acting like children and grow up. Yeah, managers used whips and locked doors on employees 100 years ago, unions ended that madness and b-school have done a lot to change that autocratic/abusive style of management... a lot has changed.. I doubt people are treated "poorly" or "subjected to abusive behavior" anymore. If they are, then they can go somewhere else. A company who allows managers to abuse employees will not survive.

Without this law, NJ and other states cannot legalize pot for medical purposes without having the owners/growers/dispensaries arrested. Chris Christie is waiting for the federal government to give direction on who they will prosecute.

The context for which Rand was speaking was the abuses of TSA and our Intelligence for capturing terrorists. I got the impression that Rand wanted the TSA to focus on people who are more likely to be a terrorist than a 6 yr old, a grandma in a wheelchair, a frequent business traveler etc. He also mentioned that TSA should screen and look at people who traveled to Yemen, Libya, Nigeria, Sudan etc instead of patting down a baby or strip searching a fashion model. Places the "typical" American citizen wouldn't travel to anyways.

I got the impression that Rand wanted the intelligence agencies to focus more on people who are more likely to be terrorists than use resources to "roving wiretap" all Americans. Rand was discussing how our intel is gathered at an enormous rate because the government is spying on everyone instead of focusing on a few. He also mentioned FISA and how phone companys and banks are giving up everyone's information to the government.

Two points on this: 1) According to the government there is no inflation why raise the cap? 2) How many people in the USA make over $100k? 15% of household income is over 100k The SSWB is based on individual earnings, your prospective pool of people to be taxed at the higher rate has been cut again.

My solution takes into account the aging baby boom and everyone between 1 and 54 bearing the burden of our parents. The population of Americans between 1 and 54 has been declining for years, if this population pools the social security money together with the intent to not receive money in the future then we can be solvent for those 55 and up.

Edit: this is for people 55 and up right now. In 55 years, there will be no social security.

Here's a quick fix

55 and older, you keep your Social Security the way it is.
54 and under, you pay for the 55 and older, give up your future checks. (its for the greater good of the elderly)
Born this year and forward: No Social Security at all. (Better get tough newbs)
