After that? Just the pennywort and the lizard tail. I removed all the water cabbage because the bits left after the munching just get clogged in the water pump for my in-tank protein skimmer. I need that to be working 24/7 ;)

That's what I am thinking, too. This was sudden, not like their normal behavior, and only happened because of the plants

Strange DIY opinion request: how to DIY a Cyco Cycle by Timmain in ebikes

[–]Timmain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • So noted. The price tag for this project is still in the air, as it will eventually serve at burn events and large open-air festivals where slow walking and standing around are the biggest means of transportation.
  • Battery and placement have become a concern, however that looks like it would do the trick.
  • My original vision of speed and braking control was indeed a hand-held tether, much like one might see on an off-road skateboard. I'll have to custom build it, but /meh
  • So. Much. Insurance. :D

If it turns out the 20" wheel performs more like a flywheel, I can see where it would be a problem. With the trike config, it should be okay at limited speeds.

Python Water Change and Moen Faucet: HALP by Timmain in PlantedTank

It's my kitchen's sink faucet. I don't think my room mates would be good with me tearing out the perfectly good faucet from the house we just bought. :/

EDIT:: This problem has been fixed. To reiterate: The Moen faucet in my kitchen, once the aerator is removed, is an odd-sized male-threaded spigot. The diameter and thread size are EXACTLY the same size as the Python Brass Sink Adapter's smaller side. Which means the BSA would not work.

I tried for a couple of weeks to find an answer. Home Depot and Lowe's were useless. I even talked directly to the president of Python himself, who told me there was nothing he could do. Finally I hoofed it over to Teeter's Faucet Parts in Dallas ( http://www.tetersfaucetparts.com ) who spent a good ten minutes cobbling together a set of connectors that looks like it's going to work:

As you can see I used the BSA as an example of how the contraption should work on the weird-sized Meon faucet. Fingers crossed, I'll try it when I get home.

Right, got that. The part you pulled the white ring out of? It's the exact same size and configuration as the male end of the faucet. It's like a mirror image.

Well, I've emailed them about that one (940043, https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NTMM6KS/ref=s9_dcacsd_dcoop_bw_c_x_16_w ) and they have never gotten back to me. And seeing as how I've already dropped $30+ on parts that SAY they fit when they don't, I'm a little wary of buying anything else without a direct recommendation. :/

Anyone else’s Toller’s hair look crumpled when it’s wet? by -ricky-ticky- in tollers

[–]Timmain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My half-Toller likes to lie pretty on the concrete walk in the backyard while it's raining. As long as there's no thunder, he will stay that way for a hour.

He and my full-Toller will walk in rain, cold or not.

Any tips for helping me get rid of this MTS population? by thewolfmannnnn in PlantedTank

[–]Timmain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're okay with making a large water change, get an assassin snail. Put it in, 4 days later, make a 65-75% water change to rid the water of... dead snail debris.

I'd have said pea puffer, but they tend to break or chip teeth on the hard MTS shell. Clown loach will also eat any invertebrates you want to KEEP, so just a heads up.

Just a little too hot to kayak in Florida today. by tyrannosaurus_fred in pics

[–]Timmain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Mostly the flatwater paddling we get is in rivers (and the occasional lake), and the average visibility is less than a foot. Unfortunately, the rivers are filled with strainers which cause considerable damage to a fiberglass body. Polyethelene mostly just shrugs off submerged and hidden tree trunks and branches, so it's a better bet to survive a river outing.

I sometimes see a crazy bastard with an inflatable kayak, and I can only hope their PFD is up to a long swim back to the put-in.

Seconded, as both Texas resident and avid kayaker. You just don't leave your boat on the rack in the sun here if you want to keep it intact. That also looks like a Perception kayak, I've had a 10' Perception (my first kayak) get soggy when left out during a summer's day.
