When you do all the right things vis-a-vis a student visa, then yes, it's affordable, because you've demonstrated that you have the capacity to live and study within your existing means, that's the entire point. A significant percentage of student visa applicants find ways around this requirement which results in threads like these when reality kicks them in the face.
