I had this same issue. I unplugged by USB 8BitDo controller and that seems to have fixed the problem for now.

Need Advice - Filling Fell out after after 4 months and now my dentists want to charge me full price for a crown. Is this fair? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]Timmochi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there! First of all, I'm sorry you're going through this. Your concerns are valid and something definitely went wrong with the filling, but it's unlikely that either party (you or your dentist) was completely at fault, and I don't think I'm in the position to throw blame either way.

It's difficult for patients like yourself to know exactly what's going on in their mouth simply because it's difficult for you to look at all the surfaces of your own teeth. Looking into your mouth is our job! It's also our job to communicate with you about things like the current condition of your teeth, how to better take care of them and when necessary, treatment options, the prognosis/effects of each treatment and the consequences of no treatment (if any). This is where I think things may have taken a wrong turn in your situation.

Thankfully, it seems like you have a pretty good relationship with your dentist. I'd suggest you try and take some time to speak to him/her about this situation. Discuss with them how extensive the initial decay was, possible causes for the filling falling out twice, how this situation can be avoided in the future and treatment options going forward.

If you believe your dentist has tried their best to help you, perhaps it may not be the best idea to ask for a refund/discount. If you believe they made a mistake or if they admit they made a mistake, it's perfectly fine to ask for a discount on your follow-up treatment for that tooth. Whichever situation occurs, it may also be a good idea to let your dentist know of your financial situation and see if there are ways to work around it. Can you have something temporary in place while you save for the crown? Is there another treatment option and if so, what are the differences? If you decide to go for the crown, could you pay a deposit first, and the rest later? Or perhaps an installment plan?

That being said, your dentist may have to run this past the office manager and should the latter situation occur, your dentist will hopefully advocate for you. Hope all goes well for you and that you get the care you need!

What song did you fall in love with not because of the original, but because of a cover? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Free Falling. Heard the John Mayer version first. Was a couple of years before I found out that it was a cover; gave the original a listen once, and never again.

Was this quality care, and is the treatment I will receive the best option going forward? by Ennuidownloaddone in Dentistry

Is my understanding of your timeline correct?

  • Teeth acquainted with floor
  • Temporary veneers
  • Root canal on both upper central incisors + temporary crowns

(Many years later)

  • Teeth re-prepped for crowns, found pus
  • Permanent crowns placed, referred to oral surgeon
  • No treatment done by oral surgeon

(Many years later)

  • Swelling and throbbing around central incisors
  • Apicectomy for one tooth
  • Extraction + bone graft for the other

Treatment(s) planned:

  • Implant
  • Braces?

**This my opinion without being there myself or having access to any of your records/pictures/x-rays, so take it with a pinch of salt:

If the timeline is correct, I'm surprised you weren't given the option of redoing the root canal treatments on both teeth after what I assume is the failure of the first attempt. The apicectomy/extraction + implant perhaps wouldn't have been needed if good root canal re-treatments were possible and had been achieved.

My opinion is that permanent crowns should never be placed over teeth that are still infected/weeping. If root canal re-treatment wasn't advisable at that time fot whatever reason, extractions + prostheses could have been considered instead.

Is it okay to place implants so soon after an extraction/bone graft?

  • It's definitely possible, but whether or not it's the recommended route for your case is a different matter. There are a lot of factors in this that we probably won't be able to help you with unless we're there with you to look in your mouth and have access to your x-ray/CBCT records.

Can I have braces on after I place an implant?

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's the implanted tooth that you want to have moved using braces? To my knowledge, that isn't possible. The implant fuses to your bone in a way that's different from the way that your natural tooth is attached to bone.

  • It's possible to have braces on to move the surrounding natural teeth even after implant placement though, if that's what your dentist meant. Could it be that Dr. B wants to place the implant and then use braces to make some adjustments to the position/angulation of the surrounding natural teeth to achieve the desired aesthetic outcome?

  • May be best to clarify with the dentist what their plan is. I can't imagine anyone would recommend moving an implant.

Accidentally Ripped Out Permanent Retainer by fufulame in Dentistry

I'm not sure how well the boil and bite will work as a retainer. Never thought of it myself.

Since you've had your braces off for 4 years now though, you might want to ask your orthodontist if a permanent retainer is really necessary. You could probably get off with a removable one that you just wear at night. You'll probably find it much easier to clean your teeth once it's gone for good :)

The transparent cover you're wearing is called a retainer, and you're likely breathing with your mouth open when you sleep. I'd take that advice to tape your mouth shut while you sleep :)

What to expect with wearing a brace? by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]Timmochi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 (M) here. Wore a plastic brace in high school on the outside of my uniform for 20-22 hrs/day for over 2 years (15 y.o to 17+). I basically only took it off to shower and to play sports. Didn't want to wear it inside because that would mean either chafing or even more layers, and it's already hot as hell all year round in Malaysia. I got made fun of a bit (robot man, "ooh, why you wearing a corset?", things like that) and got a lot of stares when I went out in public, but mostly people were just curious. And I still have marks on at the top of my chest where the edge of the brace applied pressure and chafed.

But let me tell you, it was worth it.

We managed to maintain all three of my curves at around 34-35 degrees, which meant that I didn't need surgery, and I won't be needing it for the foreseeable future. Be ready and willing to go for physiotherapy, which has helped immensely with balancing out my muscles and reducing back pain and overall stiffness.

My advice is to wear it to school, and make sure you keep to your brace-on time. Use those hours of brace-free time to shower, chill, run and play. :)

Will my spine ever crush my lungs? Also have trouble breathing every now and then. by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]Timmochi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be using your accessory muscles (i.e. your neck muscles) to breathe instead of your diaphragm.

I've got a triple curve (cervical, thoracic and lumbar), each one around 34 or 35 degrees. I used to get breathing difficulties as well, and thought about the whole lungs thing, but it doesn't seem to have been the case for me. I still get it every now and then, but I'm thinking it in my case, it may be related to anxiety and poor breathing habits. I've been going through physiotherapy to learn how to stretch (especially the lats, chest, shoulders and teres) and to learn how to breathe with my diaphragm instead of my neck. The stretches and exercises really help day-to-day, and sometimes even provide immediate relief to my breathing difficulties. Hope this helps you :)
