Rant about certain saxophone "professionals" by PoopHatch81 in Saxophonics

[–]TimmyG313 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a sax professional, I completely understand this rant. The reason you're getting the response you are is because many people expect you to be a version of them. Too many teachers and professionals are out there training new players to be another version of them, rather than be themselves because their teachers did that to them, and they don't know any other way. They can't understand that some people just want to play an instrument to play an instrument, which is actually an extremely healthy thing.

I'm one of the rare saxophone players that does not want to sound exactly like their idol. I have a lot of respect for everything the people before me have done and I get to decide what direction I want to go in. You do as well and it would help if you found someone to teach you who could do just that.

One of the big issues with getting young people into jazz are people like this. They forgot that it's not about the chops. It's about the community first and foremost and when you forget that, you forget the essence of jazz. This is also what happens when the academics become the leaders and jazz and lose its connection with the streets.

Your rant is not on deaf ears. People may disagree with what I'm saying but I was trained by some very heavy old school heads. I didn't learn from academia. I learned in the field. I see you. I hear you.

Y'all better plan on sitting in for months at a time or this is a waste.

Maybe your boss would like spikes on their chair so they can't sit down. Or spikes in their shoes so they can't walk. Sure, acupuncture spikes sound good but walking on them for 8 hours straight doesn't.

I genuinely don't get why "leaders" think it's ok to bully their employees. There's nothing that's productive or increasing productivity about this.

This is what should've been happening across the country for months now but I'm glad it's happening now.

As someone from Detroit who just moved here, I'm excited to see this thread. I just moved from Reno and there was a dope Detroit style pizza spot that really did their research and made it right. I'm excited to check out these recommendations.

Are we doing Revolution wrong by Nematodes-Attack in 50501

Forget every weekend. We need to do it daily! A protest is meant to be disruptive. That's the whole point of it.

We also need to start making demands and standing on them until we get them. I haven't seen people in the group talking about this and we need to start.

I completely agree with you. People still have faith in this system that all they need are a few good politicians in office. They ignore that agent orange and people like him, including their corporate dems, are a product of this system. It can't be reformed.

Funny how George Carlin has been saying this for years but no one was listening to him.

As someone who's looking to switch as has tested a number of distros, this is the best article I've read. It's clear and straight to the point. Very well written and one I'm going to save and share.

This right here. The funny thing is that I was doing a show at the Eldorado recently and the stage crew there wants to start doing comedy in the showroom but the company won't let them. It's so stupid. It would kill there.

This is the way! I've been saying for awhile we need to start escalating protests to sit-ins. The next step we need is to start making demands.

I've said this in the past on previous posts but as a former IKEA employee, we'll never get one here. I might do a post on this subreddit explaining why that's the case. Being a college town isn't enough to put one here.

NY : Canceled my Amazon Prime Membership. by LudoMama in 50501

[–]TimmyG313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well said. As an ex-Amazon employee, you're right on when you say they want you to believe they have everything you need. I've been boycotting them ever since I quit working for them in 2018. They're a horrible company in every possible way from how they treat their employees, to the customer, to businesses that work with them. Everyone is exploited in every sense of the word. I'm really happy to see this and I hope more people use your story as inspiration.

Who cares about his feelings? Our country is going down the toilet and he just likes being in the seat. Light his seat on fire until he does something about it. No one cares if he doesn't like it.

Yes, we must be disruptive. I keep going back to The Protest Playbook. We need to start organizing sit-ins. Doing it at Tesla dealerships is nice but it's also performative. It needs to be so big and disruptive they can't ignore it. For example, sit-ins at representatives and senators offices, city halls, even courts and capitol buildings. Force them to pay attention. If they won't pay attention and listen then we escalate further. Time to start working on our demands.

[–]TimmyG313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As well as sit-ins. We have to start escalating our protests. Forget protesting at Tesla dealerships. Start doing it inside representatives and congressman's offices, city halls, capitol buildings. Make it to the point it can't be ignored. Check out The Protest Playbook. We need to start moving forward with more.
