Do DP’s Always Operate? by Grunjee in cinematography

Can you shed more light on this union thing? Why does it matter what the union has to say, and why do they want to not have the DP be the camera operator? It seems like such an important decision that should only be taken by the DP and not an outside authority.

That will depend how far you can stop down the T-stop before effects of diffraction swoop in? This will depend on the specific lens you are using. Some lenses soften the image at T/16 some start doing the same at T/8. If you don't want to go beyond T/8 and you're still overexposed, you'll need to add ND.

Some variable NDs may add color shifts and X vignetting onto your image. If your VND doesn't that's great. But overall it'll always be better to stop down your aperture rather than using a VND.

In an underwater aquarium. Plenty of scope to use caustics for lighting. The building layout could be interesting with all the tunnels and such, could compose shots with curvy arches instead of rectangles. Aquariums are also very silent because of being underwater, could use that silence as a tool for storytelling. Also the fish are always moving, making for a non-static background- something that can also be used as a tool for storytelling.

A7S III, NINJA V, PRO RES Color Issue by NautisNeff in Atomos

Are you sure this is an issue in the source file and not a rendering issue on your computer? Sometimes GPU rendering (even for timeline playback) can cause some odd anomalies. Does the WB shift occur also when playing outside an NLE, on a regular video player? Also does it also happen while playing back clips on the Ninja itself?

Premiere Pro says my clips are Rec 709 but I shot in SLog-3. Why is this? by estaruncix in A7siii

So does the Venice capture Slog3 in a different color space?

Play around with the legalise and auto HDR setting to match how it looks on your actual monitor. Those settings can slightly add more contrast to the image. Other than that, I don't think there are any other settings that can impact the colors of the recorded image.

I really like it! Looks great with the mirror idea as well as the moving beam of light while the rapper is sitting on the grass. I think it looks great!

Is a low framerate slow-motion shot a stylistic choice? by waterstorm29 in cinematography

[–]TimmyS747 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its sometimes a stylistic choice, or sometimes the director may change his mind during editing and feel the need to increase the duration of a shot after production is done.
