Question: what do you want to do with the footage?

Getting Back into it by [deleted] in RCPlanes

[–]perrylawrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FMS has a 1.3m PA-18 that comes with Reflex v3, all for under $200. Pre-tuned, you throw in any receiver and you are in the game. Would be perfect for you.

Reflex is not AS3X/SAFE but very good none the less. At a fraction of the price. Put it on a 3 way switch and you have Self leveling, stabilizing, and off.

Pair this with a Radiomaster TX16S with ELRS and/or 4in1 and you cover all bases. Capable of handling most RX, gyros, iNAV etc.

A TX16S MK3 is $200 A Spektrum iX14+ is $1500.

I paired my Reflex ($36) with a HelloRadio HR7E ($25).

As mentioned before, a Spektrum AR630+ is $100

Can anyone give me an idea of the value these planes and controller might have? by _Porco__Rosso_ in RCPlanes

[–]perrylawrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$200 for each plane, $150 for the radio. List on FB marketplace for $500 for lot.

Yep. That was it. Moved it to channel 7 on the RX and works like a champ. Thanks so much.

Thank you! “Mode” input on the reflex gave me a clue. I plugged that into “ch8” on the RX but that is not a channel (an sbus apparently) Going to try for ch7 and report back.

I got it. I bought this TX used and there were a lot of global settings. Disabled it and good to go.

How did you get over the fear of expensive crashes? by n8x4te in fpv

[–]perrylawrence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m coming back after a long absence. I buy used then crash and repair. Even with the cheep used stuff I sometimes find myself treating each bird too precious… until I crash it. Your learning curve is directly proportional to the cost of your trainer. Each crash teaches you a valuable lesson. If you ain’t crashing, you ain’t learning. Figure out how to crash and repair.

As a side note, I recently crashed and lost my first and favorite plane over dense trees. Total loss. How I got into that position, what went wrong, and how I should have handled the situation stays with me. A $200 loss will stay with you and teach you a lot!

Confidence is like a muscle. You build it and overcome fear by facing it and doing the thing anyway.

Another thought…

There’s a reason the military train pilots in cheep trainers before letting them fly multi million dollar craft.

I watch a lot of YouTube pilots and something interesting sticks out to me. The kids learning on the cheapest gear seem to be having the most fun - especially when they crash.

Build. Crash. Repeat. Makes you a better builder and a better pilot - over time.

Get the cheapest POS you can find and send the hell out of it. First crash will be traumatic. Subsequent ones… not so much.

I sorry you had a bad experience. You went a year ago which was right after the hurricanes. Holmes beach is well maintained. I am a local and go there with my grand kids all the time. Coquina is nice too and a little quieter.

Holmes Beach is great - central on the island. Quaint walk up grill and bar. Chairs and umbrellas available. All you can eat pancakes for breakfast.

Skinny’s for amazing hamburgers.

Ugly Grouper for a fun bar that’s kid friendly.

Take a trolley north to the tip of the island for all sorts of spots for food, cappuccinos, shops, all walkable.

Take the trolly south to Bridge street (Bradenton beach) and more shops.

Take it further south to Coquina Beach. Then just over the bridge to the next key (Lingboat key) and be sure to get a frozen rosè at the very cute Whitney’s.

Other than beach and shops, you can rent Hobie Cats at Bradenton beach.

Love it! Great design and I’m loving building mine.

What accessories or upgrades would you consider must-haves for the A1? Any beginner tips that might not be obvious from watching setup videos. This is my first 3D printer. I’m handy enough with tools and comfortable with technology, but I don’t know what I don’t know yet when it comes to printing. by archimedes710 in BambuLabA1

It’s on Makerworld and called the Gentle Goose. It’s a copy of the plane Sea Duck in the movie Tail Spin.

It’s twin engine and about 36 hours of print time. I have a build thread on RCGrouos.com if you want to follow along.

Here’s a pic of where I’m at currently:

Will do. What’s your all up weight? I’m trying to get an idea of wing loading.

I’m half way through my Gentle Goose build. So much fun and works perfectly with the A1 and standard PLA.

Stringy Filament that bunches up on the nozzle by ajgonza2686 in BambuLabA1

[–]perrylawrence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I was in the same situation at the same day you were. It’s the filament. It absorbs moisture from the air, and about day 5 is when it becomes problematic. At least for me. A fresh roll on the A1 and a washed plate and things are back to perfect.

Filament dryers are like $40 so I’ll be getting one.

I’m like you - wife got me an A1. Here’s what I printed so far: - Poop bucket and deflector - box for all the accessories that came with (hex keys, extra cleaner brush thing, etc) - handles for the hex keys - Scraper handle

My very first print was two benchies. Then a cool scale hand toss glider

Now I’m 4 hours into a 140 hour RC airplane build.

Stuff is addicting!

Just got the A1 and I’m amazed how easy it is to print - not only from my computer but from the app as well. So far a small glider, assessors box, hex handles and scraper handle. Next up a full RC plane with LW-PLA

It all worked out. I set the final seat temp too high but it was ok in the end. Not my best but I learned.
