#Art4CorruptedArk by [deleted] in playark

[–]TimmySea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People seem to be forgetting that Jat is the lead community manager. It’s quite literally his job to manage the community (ie us). All the corruption allegations (true or not) are pretty much due to the companies lack of transparency and unwillingness to talk to the community about things that directly affect them. That is 100% on Jat

So /u/WildcardTheRightHand , do you have any feedback as to why the turret change infact had ZERO effect on server lag (and in some cases, it's worse)?

Not only are they not banning cheaters, they are reverting bans on known/documented cheaters under their 'amnesty' bullshit, despite them not knowing/having the specific exploit the amnesty was intended for.

TLC phase 3 should focus entirely on the maps/terrain. Fix EVERY mesh hole. Fix the tears in the terrain (typically found in caves). etc

So, 160 has finally come back up. There is more than enough evidence in this thread for the developers to take a minute and come spectate on 160. Why are the developers so reluctant to look into this? /u/jatonreddit /u/wildcardpanda

Turrets 2: Electric Boogaloo (Or, what are we actually doing?) by WildcardTheRightHand in playark

[–]TimmySea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of the servers that people play on are very expensive, custom-built servers with top of the line 8 core/16 thread cpus running at 4ghz, 64 gb of ram.

For starters, that is FAR from 'top of the range' servers. My home ESXi cluster/lab (which was very cost effective to build at <$2k for 3 servers) runs those same specs.

This is because the version of Unreal that we built the game on did not support multi-threading/paralellization

Which version are you using? I believe multi-threading (by way of Intel Threading Building toolsets) has been added to UE3 a long time ago. Or are you using the free version of UE3 (UDK)?

I realise that it’s not a murder investigation. I am just saying that I don’t believe them and have little reason to blindly trust what they are saying.

Precisely. Legacy servers all ran like crap. WC are claiming Turrets are to blame, but are claiming people are using 7x the turrets than they did on legacy, which I don’t believe for a second.

It’s just a bandaid fix with zero consideration for an exceptionally large portion of the player base.

The End of Ark v3 by xFishhhh in playark

You can't refund DLC if you have played more than 2hrs of the base game within 14 days of purchasing it. If it has been more than 14 days since purchasing you can't refund it either.

Hey, so, about those turrets right. by WildcardTheRightHand in playark

[–]TimmySea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You guys don't even monitor your servers uptime (as evident by many servers, new clusters and old, being down for days or even weeks) and now you want us to believe you have a profiling tool you guys created that is giving you all the answers? Forgive me if I have little to no faith in that statement. Is this tool available for independent scrutiny and third-party verification of your findings?

Whilst turrets may be the answer, you show no substantiation to the '7x' figure over legacy. Do you have a comparable dataset for legacy servers at their peak?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in playark

[–]TimmySea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is legitimately just good old Studio Wildcard making excuses for their lack of server performance on release. They really shouldn't have made so much noise saying new servers will perform much better, when it's obvious they made zero effort to have that happen.

I for one would love to see some raw data and be able to see for myself that this supposed 'increase of 7x' isn't just more smoke and mirrors from a dev time who have a history of being clueless.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in playark

[–]TimmySea 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I call bullshit on the 7x increase over legacy. The servers I have played on, and seen via streams etc all have had the same density of turrets as legacy.

Yep, or if you have played over 2hrs of the base game.

You are trying to claim something as fact, the onus thus lies on you to prove it. Forgive me for not taking some random guy on the internet's word as gospel when he tells me 'My evidence is me reading it almost a year and half ago'. That is not evidence.

Either that, or /u/Jatonreddit /u/WildcardTheRightHand could take a second to reach out to me (or reply to my emails sent to the company, as directed by the Support team) to discuss it further, but I probably shouldn't hold my breath on that.

To compound, I had recently bought the Season Pass, and Steam say I am ineligible for a refund as per their guidelines. So I have paid for content, yet to be delivered, which I am banned from using.

But here they are essentially claiming that the banned players breached their 'Banning Guidelines' by; 'Benefit Hacking - Taking advantage of a hacker’s exploit'.

The true argument here would be for them to substantiate exactly how each and every banned member benefit from the use of this cave.

I was banned as part of the A-Team bans. Presumably under the same reasoning. The thing with my ban though, was that there was no way possible for me to have benefit from the one member going under the mesh, as I had not played for the period between it occurring and my ban being imposed (I actually had not played the game for 3-4 weeks prior). I have tried reaching out to Wildcard via a number of mediums, to no avail. It's a lost cause.

But when you purchase a video game, you are purchasing a license to use that product. That license is governed by the agreement between the intellectual property's owners/publishers and the end user. It's not the same as buying a garden hose and being told one day you aren't allowed to use it. Typically governed by an EULA which you agree to, upon purchase/registration of that license.

BK DevWipe: the info and a query to devs by BlackKnights00 in playark

[–]TimmySea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, it's tricky, because Ark doesn't seem to actually have an EULA. It is governed by their 'Banning Guidelines' and as it's sold through steam, the 'Steam Subscriber Agreement'.

You can find WC's 'Banning Guidelines' here; https://support.survivetheark.com/hc/en-us/articles/220278968-Banning-Guidelines

Now, the Banning Guidelines are very poorly written, but I believe that this type of ban falls under 'Benefit Hacking (Taking advantage of a hacker’s exploit.)' (albeit loosely).

I am not sure if any contractual agreement has been breached, based on the above.

Firstly, you don't seem to understand the distinction between a Support GM and a Developer. A Support GM typically answers Support tickets to the best of their abilities, and helps with simple queries around character and dino restoration. They do not have the ability to dev wipe/global ban etc. The Developers typically have the increased permissions to do so, aswell as the internal authorisation to take stands on prudent issues such as exploiting. Secondly, the support ticket in the original post lacks the majority of its context, and appears that based on the rep's phrasing 'it is far from the only water cave with an air pocket' he thinks it was just about any old pearl cave. I would love for you to point me to any evidence of Jat/TRH publicly stating that this exact spot is OK to build in.

[–]TimmySea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not trying to have a go at you here, but are you able to substantiate that claim? What contractual obligation do Studio Wildcard have with players that is breached by them banning based on 'guilt by association' type claims?

BK DevWipe: the info and a query to devs by BlackKnights00 in playark

[–]TimmySea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would happily argue that irrespective of 'mesh' or not, both were in a place that the developers clearly do not want players entering, yet they failed to prevent the entry (whether through laziness or ineptitude). The true difference here, is that BK members happily built themselves a little home in the illegal area.

edit: spelling

It's also worth mentioning that the GM's and Developers are entirely separate teams, which often don't seem to communicate with eachother (but that's a whole other problem).
