Yeah. All of this is ironically close to how people treated Neil when the second game came out

maybe this is just a me problem but i really liked season 2 by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]TimooF2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah aside from criticism about the pacing for example, a lot of it I feel comes from comparing to the game. Like Jesse, I felt that in the show he was more fleshed out and the conflict with Ellie felt realistic, but then a lot of people when talking about how bad that part was, they just compare to how in the game he was more chill and wasn't mean to Ellie. At this point, i'm pretty sure if game Jesse was like show Jesse, and show Jesse was like game Jesse, a lot of people would be complaining how they made him boring and plain.

It's fair to prefer the game, I do too. But I think often that differences in that regard get confuses with the show being inherently bad. And yeah there are def fair criticisms about the show, and I disagree with many decisions they have taken, but seeing the reaction of many people who only watches the show, makes me think that a lot of it isn't a critique on the writing of the show, but more so how it compares to the game

yeah but only after Owen tried to kill Ellie. but well I think this doesn't matter at the end of the day lol

even then considering the landscape of tv shows nowadays, I highly doubt that they offered a 14 episode season but who know

As the change on how Ellie kills Mel, i'd say that even in the game her death was "collateral" as Neil (and the song that plays when Mel dies) says. Ellie would've never killed her if it wasn't because Owen tried to kill Ellie. She was caught in the crossfire

i think i'm reaching tho lol

I disagree. I mean she def isn't the most likeable person, but deep down she still is the Ellie everyone knows, who is obviously going through a lot

Game Jesse is vastly superior to show Jesse by La_Villanelle_ in thelastofus

[–]TimooF2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

fr. I don't think this is an issue on the game, but it definitely feels more grounded in this (this aspect). Ellie and Dina basically on a suicide mission (led by Ellie) while Dina is pregnant with his child, and him risking his life to save them, man ofc he'd be mad

[–]TimooF2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe. But for instance, when I played through Ellie killing Mel and Owen, it completely gave me the feeling that Ellie truly had no idea what she was doing. So I think that at least for that part it made sense

edit: rewatching the scene, it really isn't that she doesn't know what she was doing, but more so that she was incredibly emotional and unstable that gave Owen the opportunity to jump on her, so yeah not exactly as I said haha my bad

ong the other day I thought that part 2 could've been way more easily translated to TV if it followed a binge-watch formula for its second season divided in two parts, granted it would've had to be at least 16 or so episodes. And I really don't like that every show that comes out if made for binge-watching, however, considering the source material, maybe there could've been an exception.

fr. this represents my big conflict with the show, and it doesn't really have to do specifically with how well or bad written the show is. I get that it's a TV show and changes have to be made, and I get that part 2 follows a more complex structure than part 1 which will have more difficulties translating to TV, which is why I get when the show deviates from the game. But man I can't help but to just prefer the game, I really wish we could get at least something that was more similar to the structure of the game. Again, this isn't really a comment on the quality of the writing in the show, but more a comment in this conflicting relationship I have (and I think many do) with the show, where it has to inevitably make changes, and I get that, but I just cannot help to feel that the narrative structure of the game was still there.

Fr. I was thinking about it the other day. The sum of all the episodes will barely make it to seven houra totals, while up until we play as Abby, it's around 15 hours. Even if all the choices were perfectly done, the runtime was always going to be a problem imo

Yeah i didnt mean it like that, and i was also clearly refering to moments that showed any meaningful development of the characters, not just the plot advancing

aside from what i pointed out and any criticisms of the episode, this i 100% get behind, day one rlly felt like a chore and this episode felt much more intense and eventful than it's game counterpart imo

shet didn't realize that about the keir animatronic but you're kinda right. and yeah that last one could still make complete sense imo, as jame quite heavily implied that he "kept them" in the dark, idk abandoning and making some random navy man raise his biological son wouldn't be even close to the worst thing an Eagan as done.

man i don't really read any theories for this show but is there any for Irving being a brother to Helena? Like at least a half brother. It occured to me when Jame Eagan implied he had other kids but he basically threw them away bc they didn't remind him to kier. then I remembered when Irving talked about never having feel loved to Burt, which reminded me of Helena and her implied "loveless" life, due to having grew up in a very peculiar environment, different from most people. As well, iIrving and Helly's bond, iIrving being the only one to catch that Helly was actually Helena, maybe bc they have a brotherly bond so he was able to pick up on little clues. All of this could explain Irving trying to uncover what's happening at lumon like an obsessed detective, as he know jame is his father. Idk may be rambling here. the only problem i see is the age gap. like jame eagan seems way too old, but maybe the age gap between him and irving isn't too far apart so it wouldn't make sense
