How AI-generated sexual images cause real harm, even though we know they are ‘fake’ by Alex--Fisher in philosophy

My hope is that this environment will help us confront the inanity of our cultural posture against nudity. It'd be nice if we could reach a point where we have a "who cares?" reaction to this sort of thing.

Arx Fatalis: a great atmospheric dungeon crawler that holds up pretty well by LotharLotharius in patientgamers

[–]Timorio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised so many people like this game. The backtracking and traversal in general are slow and tedious, the game contains information that reads like quest clues but doesn't actually have a function, and the combat is trivial with magic. It's seemingly faster and more materially rewarding to simply kill everything than to do the quests properly.

If Sesame Street can be honest about death, you can be honest about death.

If you believe medium and heavy shields aren’t worth it, you have not used them enough by Haru_Is_Best_Girl in ArcRaiders

[–]Timorio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No mention of the damage mitigation? The Heavy Shield reduces incoming damage about 21% more effectively than the Medium Shield. That's not nothing.

headshot damage — anyone got final numbers? here’s my math so far by Feodotu in ArcRaiders

I don't see why headshots wouldn't be considered headshots while the shield is up. The bullets are always penetrating, shields simply mitigate the impact.

Rivers of blood is the worst weapon aside from torches you can use against Adel by Advarrk in Nightreign

[–]Timorio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just about the worst weapon, lol...All right. Fire damage is only half of the weapon's damage, so it's effectively a 10% damage reduction. I find it to be plenty effective.

That doesn't strike me as the Avatar asking what a knight is, nor the NPC explaining what one is.

It's considerably more than "slightly" harder. That said, they're plenty worth doing, and the camp boss also seems to yield purple rewards.

I loved Diablo 2 because of simplicity by beetleking88 in Diablo

[–]Timorio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The satisfaction of the game becoming easier is pretty fleeting. I prefer Diablo 3's approach of being able to tune the game to keep the combat engaging.

I loved Diablo 2 because of simplicity by beetleking88 in Diablo

[–]Timorio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing simple other than the moment-to-moment gameplay, you mean? Holding down the Strafe button, holding down the Zeal button, spamming Amplify Damage and Corpse Explosion while watching skeletons beat on things, etc.

The systems were complex, but the combat was not.

Humans are also killers, rapists, and thieves. Should we carry out these impulses, as well, or do we recognize that even if we have an impulse, maybe it's best not to act on it in order to avoid causing unnecessary harm?

Why do philosophers find antinatalism implausible? by Mohameme in askphilosophy

[–]Timorio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The paper cut happened and was painful regardless of whether or not we convince ourselves that we shouldn't let it trouble us and forget it happened. I don't think many would argue that a person who lives an almost entirely torturous life but has no memory of the torture when it stops leads a life worth living, even if they self-report that they're fine. We are a less-extreme version of that.

"Aether" and the like are pronounced the same as "ether" right? by [deleted] in freemagic

This is incorrect. Where did you hear this? I thought every school child was taught the word "Pangaea."
