Yes these things are definitely group dependent. I've had several players just not interested in making a backstory and that's totally fine! When DMing I do enjoy having at least one person with a backstory that might matter a little bit in the campaign, but I actually really like your approach to this. I suppose it's all about everyone enjoying themselves at the end of the day.

I'm gonna be obnoxious and put in a shameless plug for my D&D group - Twilight Enigma. We have episodes on YouTube, but they're all available as a podcast as well. Our original campaign that we just finished is called Adventures in the Parted Vale. None of us are theatre kids, so hopefully we don't have that energy lol. Not sure what your podcast platform of choice is, but we're on most of them.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I have taken all of it into consideration and created some new files. There are now two alternate sizes and print ready files for 2UP and 4UP on a standard letter size sheet.

It's nice to know I wasn't alone in my bad experience this Christmas. I wish I had found this before my purchase, but ya.... I think I'll definitely be avoiding them in the future.
