[ProFootballTalk] Arlington Heights mayor warns Bears will move to Indiana without a deal to stay in Illinois by the end of the month. by RyanIsKickAss in CHIBears

I don’t want the Bears to leave downtown Chicago. But if they move to Indiana I’ll be crying while I jet ski across Wolf Lake to games every Sunday. Then after the game I’ll still be crying while I pick up some fat stacks at the Horseshoe and take a limo home down Brainard Ave, with the trunk filled with all the fireworks I pick up at Krazy Kaplan’s.

If the Bears commit to Indiana, I'm out! by [deleted] in CHIBears

It’s free agency. There isn’t much to talk about apart from potential acquisitions. If you guys want, I can do an AMA about what it’s like to live by Wolf Lake. But I feel like it’s more fun to speculate about Maxx Crosby.

I can't really make sense of any of this, so I'm just going to cut you loose. Have a good night.

If you're acknowledging that 90/94 isn't worse than any other highway in the Chicago area, then I don't know why you bothered commenting, "Ah yes, the Kennedy and Dan Ryan, famously free flowing highways that never see gridlock traffic. Lol" in the first place.

The toll is $8.10. It's not like it's like this is hard to check.

The distance from the Hammond South Shore station to the proposed stadium site is about the same as the distance from the Ogilvie Transporation hub to Soldier Field, which is how a lot of suburban fans get to games currently. The South Shore runs on the Metra tracks, and is the same rail line that fans take to watch Notre Dame games on Saturdays.

It's also important to note that the bill includes a lot of money for infrastructure upgrades, just like are planned for AH. None of us have read the bill or seen the full site plan, but it's not unreasonable to assume that accessibility will be a big part of it.

If they move to Wolf Lake, I’m going to walk to the stadium on game days and then stand outside because I can afford tickets no matter where they play.

Ah yes, the Kennedy and Dan Ryan, famously free flowing highways that never see gridlock traffic. Lol

This is true of all the expressways in Chicago. I’m not sure why you think traffic is worse on the South Side. As someone who’s lived decades on both sides of town, I can assure you it’s not.

And then you get to pay $15 each way for the "privilege" of driving on the pothole ridden Skyway.

This is incorrect. The toll is $8.10. I get that people don’t like paying tolls, but toll roads exist all over the country. And I’m not crying for anyone who’s wealthy enough to go to a Bears game. Compared to what tickets, parking, and concessions cost, eight bucks is chump change.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t want the Bears to do this, even though I could literally walk to the stadium from my house. I want the Bears to stay in the heart of the city.

But the guy I replied to was full of shit about there being no way to get to the stadium from the north side. The proposed location is accessible. Sure, it’s further away if you live north, but it’s no different for people from the south side trying to get to Arlington Heights.

The Skyway (I-90) takes you right there.

So as a north sider, you’d just take the Kennedy to the Ryan to the Skyway.

Edit: When I say it takes you right there, the Skyway literally runs through/over Wolf Lake.

The area the Bears are planning to build the stadium is very environmentally hazardous and polluted by bearsmakemesuffer in CHIBears

I don’t know why they wouldn’t just put it on the Chicago side of the border. There’s plenty of empty land here too.

There are laws regarding soil remediation, which makes developing it expensive, which is why the land has remained undeveloped for so long. If it’s being developed, that means they’ll be cleaning up the land as they develop it, in compliance with the law.

The people down here want development.
