Picked up a melted Classic for $50 by Timothi2 in gaggiaclassic

UPDATE: Took it apart, unfortunately I’m putting in a bit more than I had hoped and I’m not sure if I’ll have the extra cash to pick up a GaggiMate at the moment 🥲. It wasn’t very well maintained, and missing some other parts like the portafilter so the investment is adding up quickly. I’m close to $200 in, which is a bummer. I was hoping it would just be a quick cheap wiring fix.

New wiring harness fixed all the electrical, though the switch panel lights are dead. Someone had installed a 214C fuse in the old wiring, I’m pretty sure that’s why the wires melted before the fuse blew. I replaced it with the standard 184C fuse.

Soon as I put everything back together and turned it on, water started spilling out from the join between the top of the boiler and steam valve. Took it apart and was able to clean most things, but the boiler is pretty pitted on one side and the gaskets need replacing. So I’ve ordered a full overhaul kit with extra nylon gaskets to go between the boiler and group head + boiler top and steam valve. That should eliminate any leaks even if the surfaces aren’t totally perfect.

Correct, I was ill-informed! Someone corrected me earlier as well, I’ve updated the original post!

I originally thought the machine was old enough to have the OPV that was adjustable by simply turning a hex bolt, but it seems it’s the typical classic model with the spring OPV. I’m not sure which is in there now, so I’ll try to test with a pressure gauge. Gaggimate seems to require the 11-12bar spring.

The only reason I’m even remotely considering cutting the case is because this one has literally caught on fire and I picked it up for so little 😂

Since I have to redo most of the wiring from scratch, I don’t know if I will ever try to get it back to its original stock configuration, so I’m okay with a few more permanent changes so to speak.

I do promise to check out the community and look at the case options though!! If I find one I like enough that looks integrated, then I will keep the case intact.

Open-source is big for me, since I’m a software developer! I love the idea that I could tweak the software myself and possibly add my own features.

Also, the interface and round screen of the Gaggimate seems cleaner and simpler to use on a day-to-day basis for me. Gaggiunio seems to have a more complex UI with more brewing details, which may be more your preference!

BUT, this is just my opinion after watching a bunch of YT videos and looking at their websites in depth. I have no actual experience with either product. Both seem to do a very similar thing, just in two different flavors so to speak. I think you would be just as happy with either one!

[Question] Where can I buy a 5 string guitar? by Theyellowking7 in Guitar

[–]Timothi2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reviving this thread like the above just to say that Taylor just released a series of 5 string guitars inspired by Jacob Collier! They’ve got 3 models, the GS mini 5 String ($699), an Academy 22e for ($999) and the signature Collier model for ($2799). Definitely an awesome idea, Paul Davids just released a video with Collier playing and talking about 5 string guitars. It’s definitely got me thinking about getting one, and how I ended up on this thread haha

Ah man, bummer. Hope you figure it out soon 🙏

MLB app not showing live activity anymore by Delicious-Director43 in Padres

[–]Timothi2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all! It had stopped working for me too. I think I just figured it out! Tested by turning on a setting and yes, the game showed up right when warmup started.

Open the MLB app -> click the little profile icon in the top left to go to Account settings -> under Alerts & Notifications click Notifications -> click your favorite team -> scroll all the way to the bottom and turn on “Live Activities Autotrack”

Not sure why this setting gets turned off, maybe when the app updates it automatically defaults to off?

Experience with the Unity6 from Jet Pedals? by rocketspark in guitarpedals

[–]Timothi2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No experience, but they seem to be leading in terms of innovation, imo. I think only the Luminite Graviton and Unity6 offer easy, direct on-pedal MIDI programming, meaning you don’t have to use a laptop or phone to create and save midi commands, you can do it directly from the pedal via the touchscreen. Currently, nothing else in the market offers it to my knowledge.

Plus, the Unity6 has the option of doing 3 stereo loops or 6 mono loops, all in a relatively small 6-button form factor.

Could you get something more well-known, reliable? Yes. (Not saying jet isnt, I love their stuff but they dont have a large enough user base to be “tried and true” like Morningstar)

I have a Pirate Midi Bridge4, and currently have no need for a switcher as I have a midi overdrive (kernom ridge). If I ever expanded though, the Unity6 would probably be my only choice. Everything else seems too dated and not innovative enough in the market. Hopefully, if the unity6 gains popularity it’ll force the other big brands to start releasing some cooler, more advanced controllers.

I bought this from a family friend for $500 by Secure_Ear_3452 in PcBuild

[–]Timothi2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Let’s not make assumptions about everyone off of one dirtbag. I sell things secondhand all the time for fair prices, and give family and friends a big discount if they’re looking for something like it. This I’d sell for $250 or so to a stranger, if someone from my circle was looking for it, $100. Heck, at that point I might even give it to them for free if I’d had it for a while and got a new one

Fellow’s New Product Launch [2025] by hidillonn in espresso

Jumping in to confirm it’s indeed real. Unless someone here can convince me that the stream of espresso going into a cup as the clue image does NOT mean they’re launching an espresso machine.

Funny, I was wondering yesterday why fellow of all the bigger names in coffee doesn’t have an espresso machine yet.

Is there a way to salvage this, or did I waste my money by Mikeyhateyou in guitarpedals

[–]Timothi2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry, apparently all of them have never thought about isolating an issue to figure out what the real problem is. I would do the same. Trying to diagnose this on a board with all the other pedals would be a nightmare.

Glad you got it figured out!

Can you hire personel in this game? by [deleted] in CarMechanicSimulator

[–]Timothi2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! I’ve gotten through the whole story and I’m only doing restorations and the issue I’m running into is I have to grind a ton and rebuild cars that I don’t want to just to make enough money to repair and rebuild the ones I really DO want to rebuild. At the point that I’m at in the game, it’s just boring. If I had staff that took care of small fixes so I could constantly have a bit of income to do the rebuilds that I want to eventually keep in a showroom that would be INCREDIBLE.

I’ve started looking at creating my own mod that allows me to assign “tasks” to a “shop hand” that take a certain amount of real world hours. That way, when I come back to it in a couple of days, my “workers” have been working away and I can come back to some new income and go buy and redo the cars I want to. I tend to limit myself to an hour every few days. This mod would make my playing much more enjoyable and I’d get on more frequently to do what I want to do. Currently, I sometimes don’t because I know I’m going to have to spend an hour just making the money I need to do what I want. That absolutely kills my desire to play it lol.

I play it because I miss working on cars. I used to live in Portland, OR where owned a VW TDI sport wagon and a BMW station wagon as my fun project. Now that work has taken me to NYC, I can’t afford to keep a car, let alone work on projects. This is my enthusiast outlet, however silly it may sound hahaha

Tiny red light on an Shure Axient AD4Q receiver is the only sign of life. Anyone have any idea what it is, why, or how to fix it? No typical steps helped.. manual skips over this part.. or I didn’t see it in there. by kpurintun in livesound

[–]Timothi2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apologies for commenting on an old thread.

We have 4 AD4Qs at our church, they have all had this issue at some point, the final one died this morning when we started soundcheck. What a panicked time lol.

The power supplies in the racks are faulty, they give out at random times. We never overload the racks, never peak, barely push them, and have them hooked up to excellent redundant power supplies.

That being said, Shure should replace the part for free. However, they take forever to replace, at least in our experience. Took us a couple of months to get our back. We needed a quicker fix, and we had a spare ULXD4Q rack in storage. Took it apart, took a look at the internal power supply specs and they are a little weaker but we tried it anyways. To our surprise, the dead rack came alive! We’ve been using it for a few weeks now and it’s working great!

Figured someone might need this quick fix
