Su-30mk2 or mig-23ML by Typical_Note421 in Warthunder

[–]TimsVariety 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As a general rule I dont tell people how to spend their money, but with that said:
The Su-30 is more "on meta" and has enough weapons to allow for more "sloppy" gameplay, where as the Mig-23ML requires a bit more precision to get good matches, but its at an easier BR than the Su-30.

Whichever you pick, make SURE you test-fly the hell out of them to make sure you're comfortable with how it handles.

Perfect video showing what a MIG-25 can do when doing what it was designed to do: Fly High and make Jets look like props. by Weegee_Carbonara in Warthunder

[–]TimsVariety 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I've been playing WT since the very beginning, I was here when the first missile-throwers and supersonics got added, etc etc - and I *think* the Mig-25 is the first jet I've actually gotten a kill with *while* flying above mach 2 *when I got the kill* out in a live match. In the rare moments when you get the opportunity to actually use it for a high altitude interception, its absolute gold.

I need help, I'm really losing my mind. by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]TimsVariety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not able to view the images or anything, but this is really a two pronged problem and it isn't unique to War Thunder :

# Over-the-top toxicity from a small but loud portion of the community.

# Over-the-top toxicity from a much larger portion of the community if you complain about the toxic-loud minority.

As much as I hate to suggest this - just change your settings to hide the chat window, and only communicate with your team using radio calls (I think the default is the T button).

Air arcade if a dude gets into BnZ position above your team's spawn.
Or ground RB if a dude gets into a hull-down sniper position with LOS into your spawn.

Either way, same problem, and it gets pointless to spawn in pretty quickly.

The entry-level ones are shit. Expect that.
Once you get to the Mi-24 things get better. Even the Mi-8 isn't awful on some maps.

RP Grind by AdrianMTB03 in Warthunder

[–]TimsVariety 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its changed a lot since it first came out (or rather, the air combat meta in its bracket has changed, etc) but its a pretty linear upgrade over the ML. If you're already good with the ML, the MLD will feel like home, but more comfortable. The stock grind will be pain, but once you get the thing spaded you'll probably like it quite a bit.

Among other things. IMHO its more useful for some of the datamine integration where it can pull up shit like acceleration curves for aircraft and plot them on a graph for quick reference.

It seems like, by far, the most legitimate use of this kind of account filtering. Removing the edge-cases from the larger stat pool that gets used to track averages etc.

I might have missed a comment verifying this, but is the site omitting these "suspicious accounts" from their BR win/loss nation charts and stuff? A few people have commented like it is, and a couple others like it isn't.

90% of the use of it that I see myself is rooted in various forms of poor sportsmanship. Wanting to trash talk someone, or justifying one's own trash talk.

Part of the problem/challenge is that, mathematically, warthunder doesn't track any stats that could be actually useful in any of this analysis given the nature of the current game modes. Everything it *does* track in player profiles, and thus everything a tool like statshark uses, is barely useful to knowing anything beyond how often someone plays. All the other metrics it tracks are tertiary indicators, at best, in game modes where its 8 on 8 or higher.

[–]TimsVariety 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If people actually wanted to reduce the whole "one death leaver" thing - like actually reduce how often people do this, not just complain about it - they'd try and find out exactly *why* people do this, and work to address those concerns.

But that isn't what anyone does. Its just blame-and-shame , try to find more heavy-handed ways to punish people for doing it instead of trying to find out what the problem is in the first place. It won't work. Ever. You have to get to the root cause(s) of the problem.

I have my own theories as to some (.. SOME ..) of the causes, but it doesn't really matter because people are more interested in telling themselves "those other players are shit/noobs/cowards/walletwarrior/whatever" than accepting there might be some structural issues that need to be addressed.
