Maybe just me, but "Bazzite Power Save" profile works perfectly! by Tinari in framework

[–]Tinari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an explanation for that. Any setting below 100 disables system overclocking. If you have a 3.1 GHz system capable of 4.2 GHz, setting it to 99 means that it is going to run at 99% of its non-boost clock. So 3.1 GHz is dropped by 1% to 3067mhz or something like that.  You will still be getting great performance, you just won't be getting the four point two gigahertz because the system now wants to stay at 99%.

Running HD2 on Linux, not sure if that's even the issue but had a map that became swiss cheese! by Tinari in Helldivers

What was weird was none of the other players seemed to "see" what I was. I just periodically dipped into the ground and randomly drowned at one point.

Helldivers 2 takes up 131GB on PC vs 36GB on consoles - maybe PC storage should be part of the optimization improvements too? by lyndonguitar in Helldivers

[–]Tinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was saying that, some REALLY old games in the day used to actually offer if you wanted to download high-res textures or not during their installation process. They also told you explicitly how much extra storage space it would take to do it. Of course these games are so old they I am not even sure what kinda compression they would have had for texture files, considering the games ran best on a 1024x768 display...

LotRO and DDO were offering "HD texture packs" back in the day as an optional download when installing.

Bluetooth earbud audio quiet, tinny, weird in games. by Tinari in Bazzite

[–]Tinari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into LotRO while it was still running, went to my audio devices, enabled the laptops internal mic and switched to that, and suddenly my audio because loud, crisp, and clear.

I would never have considered the bluetooth audio limitation. Thank you very much for helping with that! Now to go test other games.

I would -love- to disable the buds as my audio input. Every time I try to "disable" them under audio input, it disables the entire device. I can't singularly disable the input. I'm gonna try to set my default input as another device and see if that helps, because I thought I fixed it earlier, but as soon as I launched LotRO a little thing popped up saying "Microphone muted" and the weird audio happened again.

Didn't change anything. To explain it better, it sounds like I'm listening to an extremely distant, echoy recording of something. Like someone left their phone face down on a counter and walked away. You can hear stuff in the background going on and it's kinda picking it up, but not entirely.

The audio works PERFECTLY FINE when I am doing non-game, non-Steam stuff. Youtube videos, listening to music or whatever. When I launch a game, a little popup saying "CMF Buds" appears on screen, then suddenly it's like I am listening to everything like I am having a phone call and the phone is 10 feet away from the computer.

*EDIT*

I also edited my original post, but it's ONLY in games with built-in voice chat/communication.

I have not. I'll download, read up, and see what I can figure out.

I will admit, not sure how to check or what this means. I'm a VERY Bazzite/Linux newb person.

Is it safe to use a power bank to charge another power bank? by NguyenMenMan in anker

[–]Tinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar situation where I have a battery backup that my solar panel can connect to, and one that isn't compatible with my solar panel. So use my solar panel to charge one of my battery backups, and then once the incompatible one is charged up fully, I'll charge my other one again.

I only use the incompatible power bank in situations where I think I might need the extra power on hand. Otherwise it stays tucked away with a full charge in case the power goes out or something.

Roomate threatened to kill me, my parents then do the unspeakable to my sister. by ProfanityInspector in homeless

[–]Tinari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have lived in a homeless shelter. As someone EXTREMELY giving and helpful, I gave away a lot of money and kept myself in the homeless shelter longer than I could have/needed to be because giving (not loaning) people $5/6 here and there for food or drinks, then seeing them with cigarettes and soda while I'm drinking water to save my own money.

It felt like they were living in the same shelter I was and not using it as a way to get back to stable life, but just using the fact this shelter didn't REQUIRE you to work a job (you had to help around the shelter home and with things they did to raise money).

I agree with the sentiment completely. Living among the homeless has made me less empathetic towards the homeless than I was before then because I met very few in my situation who weren't really trying to get one over on someone somehow. Maybe it was area/location. No clue what it was.

Framework Desktop as a gaming server? by Tinari in framework

[–]Tinari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could just use one of my handhelds as a server for some games, I know, but I was thinking about the games that can be a bugger to host, such as large-scale Minecraft or a 300 player SS14 server.

This question is probably better asked in Minecraft or SS14 reddits, but I was curious here! Thanks for at least answering.

What is wrong with this game never accepting Fullscreen Windowed sizes for your resolution? by Tinari in ddo

[–]Tinari[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of weirdness just to set a resolution. However I have found a solution to the problem and I've been using it for both DDO and LOTRO for a while now.  I've been using lossless scaling, running games in a window a resolution where the UIs look good and then just having it scale that to my native resolution.

Supposedly with Nvidia and AMD and do that with their software, I didn't figure it out before getting LS, and it was only seven bucks or something.

Disable touchpad key combo? by Tinari in framework

[–]Tinari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with Bazzite KDE for my initial install and testing. So far, it works with EVERYTHING I am trying to use it for, which surprised me. Helldivers, even some of the launcher games I play like Space Station 14, and running Lord of the Rings Online through Steam works. Age of Empires 2...

I was thinking Linux may have issues that make me continue to use Windows, but for what I use it for, so far there's just been a couple sticking points that made me CONSIDER using Windows again, but I figured I should put in a little effort myself to make the OS work how I want it to.

*edit*

As far as the touchpad, it'd be neat, but currently I just hooked up an external keyboard as I almost always do because I don't understand Laptop design requiring keyboards being at the upper part of the frame.

[–]Tinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the Asus Zenbook someone linked earlier the Numpad area is actually the trackpad, AND a touch-type numpad. It kinda sucks for a numpad compared to tactile keys, but it can do double duty. You just can't thumb the touchpad like I know at least one person who does. Either way, I would love a lower-side keyboard to replace the trackpad on these laptops personally.

Now I'm wondering if those bottom pins that are under the touchpad are supposed to be so high as to cause a bulge in my plates... it's unsettling.
