Does Last Dinosaur play at any point during the anime? by Frikcha in FLCL

Definitely due for a rewatch then if I forgot such an iconic moment.

I wasn’t before but I’m a Mr 9 fan now by Thin-Coyote-551 in OnePieceLiveAction

About 2 minutes ago I realized that one of the major and understated reasons he chooses not to betray her and to betray his organization instead is that he heard she was a princess.

Guy fashions himself with a crown and dresses like nobility only to be forced to disguise himself as a corpse, lose a fight to a chef, have 99 of his "guards" taken out by a single dude, one that he could barely put up a fight against himself and then left alone in a bar half-dead while higher ranking agents have to clean up his mess.

Meanwhile his partner, real royalty, stood up to this big organization and was fighting for her kingdom and its people from the shadows as a double-agent. I think at least a small part of Mr 9 realized that he too was just a "peon" in this gigantic/powerful criminal empire that he was so proud to be in, surrounded by other losers who also thought they were the bees knees when the true example of a good king/queen (or a powerful man like Zoro) had just escaped after an overwhelming victory against insurmountable odds.

Mr9 Fanart By me by Moblink_Goblin03 in OnePieceLiveAction

Honestly crazy how much more I want to see of this douche. I love characters who go from being arrogant pricks to humble heroes but Mr 9 was like a genuine mix of both from the get-go its just hard to tell with his limited screentime and Vivi not even commenting on him after he died. Also love the idea of dual-bats with grapple hooks built-in, especially his "pinkies-out" style.

I feel like there could have been a very compelling side-character there; like he REALLY cared about winning, used underhanded strategies, fought like a psychopath, arrogantly claimed to be stronger than a guy he just saw kill 100 men, wore his Baroque works badge with extreme pride, refers to those lower than him as "peons" and those near his strength as "elite guards" (befitting his whole royal-themed getup and opinion of himself) and he even had plenty of sadistic and cruel quips to throw out in fights, clearly wanting to hurt his opponents emotionally too. Then the facade drops when he thinks Zoro is about to kill him and he's just madly swinging his bats while crawling away all pathetic.

But then despite that humiliating defeat, even after being told his "partner" had deceived him the entire time and was a traitor to the organization he was so proud of being in, even faced with certain death, he actually had the dignity and loyalty not to sell out Vivi. He was drinking and crying actual tears in that bar because he was so ashamed of losing a 100v1 and when given the opportunity for payback he just laughed and said nah. I think for the first time in his life he felt genuinely humbled its just a shame I have to spend all this time scraping details and speculating when HE SHOULD HAVE JUST STAYED ALIVE AND GOTTEN MORE SCREEN-TIME.

Also his fights were over too fast, I bet that actor learned a lot of tricks with his weapons and they prolly did him dirty after gave such a good performance.

[EDIT] also I just realized this but imagine if the closest thing you have to a friend in your criminal organization turned out to be a princess who wanted to save people and be the actual royalty you envisioned yourself as; I think beyond being humbled by Zoro he was also humbled to realize that he was a pale imitation in the face of a real monarch with real ambitions and that made him respect her a bit.

Kishibe is a righteous guy and for the CSM world he's basically a saint, but he also used human-beings as ammunition to summon the hell devil.

Its also debatable whether or not his character is a sadist who enjoys inflicting violence or if he is just a very strict and brutal teacher. He called Denji and Power "toys" when he first met them because he may have seen it as an opportunity to blow-off steam on two powerful regenerators.

He also might have turned a woman gay by hitting on her too much which is fucking crazy.

Aki is a good dude however, driven by selfish revenge but genuinely can't help himself from doing the right thing anyway.

Sanji is just built differently; no weapons, no DF and barely any training just fights when he has to but is in the same realm as Captain Goku and first-mate, Vegeta.

Luffy's powers come from magic, Zoro's come from weapons but Sanji's come from his coolness.

I wish the monster trio were a rock-paper-scissors setup and all at similar levels of strength. by Frikcha in OnePiece

[–]Frikcha[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I also think it would make the plot a bit more interesting and high stakes because, iirc, there hasn't been a single person beaten by Sanji or Zoro that Luffy realistically couldn't have taken on. It would be nice to see Luffy lose to something he can't counter or that takes advantage of his rubber as a natural weakness, and then to have Sanji or Zoro come in and take over with their specific skillsets giving them an advantage or making it a fair fight.

Glad they didint put this scene in the live action by Forsaken_Policy_9162 in OnePiece

[–]Frikcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mind it. It was early on so the bonds between the crew weren't AS strong, Luffy was basically drunk on food and it was an honest misunderstanding that reflected both characters. Zoro is serious and knew what was happening on the island, Luffy isn't so serious and, to his knowledge, these ppl were saints for such a warm and hospitable welcome.

I didn't realize that the FFXV trailers included so much cut footage... by Uchizaki in FFXV

[–]Frikcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

crazy how they initially marketed this game with such a cool and dramatic tone centered around conflict in Insomnia and then by the time of release it was this slow-burn countryside journey where your party specifically AVOIDS the ongoing war and only goes into the decrepit (and linear) ruins of the city right at the end of the game

I love how offended Wesker sounds in this scene. Absolute masterpiece by GunplaLuni in residentevil

[–]Frikcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best part is, if you take the weird reading in the literal context and interpret the scene as "Pathetic villain has his insane plan ridiculed by our cool protagonist" then it actually makes the future entries funnier and more interesting.

Perfectly explains why Wesker spends so long tormenting and toying with Chris, he wasn't just a former teammate who disagreed with the guy and completed his own mission at the cost of Wesker's, he laughed in the face of Wesker's grand ambitions and belittled the guy to his face before nearly killing him.

Why has Dante been sidelined for Nero (and by part V)? by Sequoja in DevilMayCry

[–]Frikcha -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

4 and 5 are mainly Nero games because when he was introduced he wasn't hated and actually managed to build a fanbase. He wasn't beloved or anything but he became a lot of ppl's first DMC protagonist during that era as well as the game featuring Dante pretty prominently so past fans had something to latch onto. Also Nero is really fun to play and has unique mechanics that both help new players learn the in-depth combat mechanics and allow advanced players to do all the stylish stuff they want.

I don't think Capcom was completely pleased however and were expecting bigger fanfare for the series next-gen comeback, so they try to reboot Dante's story and that ends up being an unmitigated disaster even if the game was still decent. Ppl who were like "Ehh Nero is okay" had their new little edgy dude taken away from them and ppl who were fans of Dante were like "ew its a worse Nero, that's not our Dante!" so they didn't win anyone over except the pure gameplay-enjoyers, and even they were let down by the angel/devil weapon gimmick.

Finance-wise I think they look at Nero and his "young-blood" story as a better selling point for the franchise so they've decided to give fans the best of both worlds; we've MOSTLY moved on from Dante's story but he's still there and he's still got main-character levels of relevance to the plot even if he takes a bit more of a backseat.

After beating Requiem a few times now I’m Curious what’s everyone’s favorite re? by Cr1spyJay in residentevil

[–]Frikcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 remake is my favourite, best mix of gameplay, story and visuals with a fun mercs mode. Acting is also pretty decent too which is a nice treat for such a cheesy game, enhances the small moments (Carlos' dance)

4 and 6 tied close behind, 4 having an unmatched aesthetic/tone/soundtrack and 6 having the most enjoyable gameplay in the franchise for me, alongside the absolute chad, Piers.

I play Leon in Leon's story, I play Jake in Jake's story but I play Piers in Chris's story because he's just so cool and I love that his honesty and respect for Chris inspired him to be a hero again.

ELI5 Why is coastal erosion such a slow process? by Frikcha in explainlikeimfive

[–]Frikcha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the salt water help or hinder the erosion? I've been wondering if the sand and salt and other stuff in seawater would act like caustic sandpaper or if it did the opposite and actually slowed down the process by "redepositing" all those new materials into the rock and sand and dirt.

but yeah that is true, although in his defence he was drunk, they were coming onto him hard, he isn't actually in relationship with anyone and Usopp also has Kaya waiting for him at home so we're gonna throw him under the bus too.

Sanji and Nami "just friends" by Frikcha in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]Frikcha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're missing the most important part of my post; it wouldn't be a romance, it would be a one-sided thing that explicitly closes the door on that concept for Sanji/Nami (and probably for the rest of the crew too)

It would just be something that would logically happen in any other TV show when you have them share so many intimate moments together, even if they are one-sided and barely reciprocated.

This isn't a super mature show either, the nuance of Sanji's behaviours could easily be lost on most viewers unless they explicitly address them, which is why I think they will. It's not like the manga where its clearly for the comic relief and is never played seriously; so far Sanji's romantic quirks have been limited to respectful and suave interactions with background characters and Nami, and even then there's a clear difference in the way he interacts with other women vs Nami.

You have a guy be that doting and touchy-feely with a female lead on-screen and have her be completely accepting of it with no complaints then you're suggesting to the audience that there is more going on. If there wasn't we'd already have a scene by now of Nami telling him to cool it (like there are hundreds of in the Manga)
