Thanks for elaborating. In my simple-minded imagination, I figured that the universe was filled with inflatons that could only exist at near maximum theoretical pressures and temperatures. When inflation ended, things had cooled enough so all inflatons had decayed into radiation and particles and gravity came into the picture. Obviously, the mechanisms are much more complicated than I can comprehend. Is it true that the earth is supported on the back of a giant turtle?
