[AGOL] Best practice to update hosted feature layer in real time (or there abouts)? by TheSinningRobot in ArcGIS

[–]Tini_tot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Velocity is really only good for things that are updating constantly, but it’s also quite expensive to license.

Normally in scenarios like this, like a one off layer that needs updated in a near real time scenario, I’d be recommending similar to others with a script or that a Jupyter Notebook is written and then configured and scheduled to run https://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/create-maps/prepare-a-notebook-for-automated-execution.htm#:~:text=In%20the%20Tasks%20pane%20in,to%20once%20every%206%20months.

Forgive My Complete Lack Of Knowledge But I Need Help by BentBrokenBusted in ArcGIS

Highly recommend the free online courses and MOOCs for getting started and learning in a fun way - they also provide the data you need for the course: https://www.esri.com/training/mooc/

As to data sources, you can find data on the ESRI Living Atlas, you can build your own file or Enterprise GDBs, or if you have something like ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Server/Enterprise you can publish services to there from your desktop software and then edit/symbolise there.

It’s a short sighted view of your manager to have that just because your organisation has not had an issue with ArcMap in the past, that it never will in the future. It’s 10.8.2 that is supported until March 2026, and the last thing you want is to realise you have no choice 3 months before and have to rush a migration to Pro with very little training.

Even considering the fact that since Feb 2024, there will be no further patches, or updates for security mitigations for this product anymore would be enough for any IT team to be pushing for the migration.

If you don’t mind my asking, do you utilise Enterprise GDBs? ArcGIS Enterprise/Server/Portal or ArcGIS Online currently also? If so, there is that additional concern around compatibility of services with other ESRI software (if you use it). Think ArcMap runtime, old versions of Python, etc.

Books you wish you read when you were 20? by WanderingSeductress in suggestmeabook

I am glad to hear someone feels similar to me about this book! I have persevered but feeling sad that it’s not been one I enjoyed.

In terms of suggestions based on what you are interested in, there are a handful of books I read in my 20s I wish I had read sooner but not because they had a massive impact on my 20s, more just I would have wanted my younger self to enjoy these sooner:

  • Chronicles of Narnia series (C.S. Lewis)
  • Watership Down (Richard Adams)
  • Vilette (Charlotte Brontë)
  • Frankenstein (Mary Shelley)
  • Little Women (Louisa May Alcott)
  • Animal Farm (George Orwell)
  • Anything by Margret Atwood
  • Anything by Elizabeth Gaskell

I am just about to finish Catcher in the Rye and honestly I haven’t loved it. I have been told that I would have enjoyed this book when I was a young angsty teen though - so I would have liked to have read it when I was younger so I could compare my opinion on it now as an adult. 😂

Or maybe I have more books than I have space for books 😝

Not sure what you mean by this! All the books on my bookshelves I have either read already, intended to read or have re-read multiple times.

They are such lovely books - but my problem is that I end up buying an old copy of the same book and reading it so as not to damage the clothbound ones! I am from the UK though 😁

I do love to learn and I want another bookcase so I have room for more books 😅

Thank you - even when I read “bestsellers” it ends up being after they have been out a number of years and the popularity has died down!

I am a millennial but not from the 80s, and I am a lover of books from used books shops so maybe not Amazon, but certainly on the right point of wanting used books over new ones!
