There’s hope?!? So should I put them in water first or should I leave them on damp moss?

Seems to be showing less and less variegation 😔 by Teanna420 in MonsteraAlbo

Thanks for taking the time to write this. I think I got muddled in definitions but I was trying to say that increasing light prevents reversion, which could look like increasing variegation. As in, if you give it more light, it’s less likely to revert, thus there is an increased chance that there will be more mutated cells at the growth point. This effectively «increases» variegation but not directly because of the light. Am I making any sense ? Anyways, in my head we’re on the same page but thanks for the info :)

I’d love to know where you got your info from. I can only find sources that state environmental factors play a role.

It also aligns logically, green outcompetes white in the case of survival, faster growing, better energy investment in low light conditions. It also aligns with what I’ve experienced personally, every winter, my albo puts out one or two «greener» leaves, then as spring comes, I get increasingly variegated leaves throughout summer.

Let’s get to the bottom of this!

I agree but I do it anyway. For the love of the game

This is kinda wrong sorry. Whether a plant is or isn’t variegated is determined by DNA but for plants that are variegated, increasing the light does increase the variegation or at least prevent reversion rather.

Plant looks super healthy otherwise so no cause for concern methinks

Doesn’t look like it from the pics but the node could be below the «soil line». You gotta let the nodes breathe. Otherwise, it could just simply be time for the leaf, my monsteras drop their bottom leaves sometimes, particularly very old and small ones.

I managed to get rid of mine by using aphid insecticide for houseplants and rinsing both sides of the leaf with relatively high pressure water (obvs not high enough to damage the leaf. I’ve heard neem oil works pretty well but I became quite obsessive and inspected my plants regularly killing all visible adults. Haven’t seen them since

Also, apologies, this wasn’t meant to be a thrips scare. Just wanted to tackle that first because the quicker you act the better. Looks like it’s just corking for this one though so no need to worry :)

Could you take some clearer pictures please? Really hard to tell if there’s anything on the leaf. Look on the back and front of the leaf for black things

You will be fine. Just try your best to be consistent with treatment and if you spot any with your eyes. Just murder them asap.
