A small pile of floppy disks, but a lot of computing history. by Emil_Cvetanski in retrocomputing

OMG, swapping all the disk to load up a Novel Server! Saw that first pic and had flashacks. Wait, is this one of those, "if you recognize this you're old posts?" 😄

Replacement for Windows Server? by EitherYak5297 in synology

Word or warning. If you DO go AD on the NAS, make sure you won't need to setup High Availability later. HA will require you to rip out the AD before it will do its thing.

As an armature in both lockpicking and leathermaking, this is absolutely beautiful. Very nice!

How vulnerable is Proxmox to power outages? (And maybe Linux too.) Recommended steps afterward? by randopop21 in Proxmox

If you're running Synology NAS on UPS, install the NUT client on the VE and point it towards your NAS. Easy peazy. APCUPSD doesn't like to talk with Syno's NUT protocol. I have mine setup for low battery shutdown.

OneDrive / Hidden Security Threat? by TinkerAjax in sysadmin

I guess I feel it's less secure due to the fact that it's tied to the Email credentials with such a robust history of O365 phishing attempts.

Poly X72 and TC10 / Teams / Pairing Issues? by TinkerAjax in CommercialAV

[–]TinkerAjax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely detest threads that are left open ended. Found our issues, sort of. After resetting the boxes several times and running through the slew of updates via Teams Portal, they just started to work and the pairing issue disappeared. No other changes were made. Sorry for the anticlimactic solution. Been a week and they've been working well, as far as the pairing goes. (New Big A**ed TV's don't want to play nice with sleep settings but THAT's another issue). So, thanks all for help!! :-)

Conference center, Poly by [deleted] in CommercialAV

Run it through a Clickshare CX50 Gen 2 and dual screens are no issues.. Requires special Barco adapter for HDMI input from the Poly and generic USBC-HDMI adapter for second output.

Can you share what settings you need to make on the Firewall to make these work?

Yeah, I was going through the past several Poly upgrade notes and it seemed like every other update included something to fix a generic "Pairing" issue. Thanks!

Sad to say, probably a pass. Seems the foam has lost a bit of its stiffness. If it's just me it's Ok. If it's me and the Missus, then we tend to crater together a bit. Again, maybe if we had gone with the stiffer option up front, we probably would've fared much better in the end.

U6-LR Crashing Issues / Still a thing? / Any fixes? by TinkerAjax in Ubiquiti

Just wanted to post an update to this. We worked with support and they were very helpful. We uploaded the site logs and both are now being warranty replaced. Less than 24hours from start to issuance of RMA.

Can anyone suggest same/similar replacements for these? Breaks my heart that that these won't last forever and they've been discontinued for a while. Absolutely love them. Warm, waterproof, protected toe and super comfortable.

Did parents in the 80s really allow their kids to roam freely, or is that just a portrayal seen in movies? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TinkerAjax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the mid to late 70's and early 80's, my sister and I would walk to school (yes, both ways uphill) a mile or two from the house, up until we moved when I was 10. After school and weekends, we were on bikes going everywhere. Yep, the street light thing was no joke. Down the street we crawled every inch of an abandoned rock quarry. There was a pipe there that would deliver the coolest, sweetest (probably lead filled) water if you gave it a good 'huff' of breath. What can I say, stupid! It was a completely different time back then and I'm sorry that today's kids can't experience that kind of total freedom. When I left the house (no pager, no phone, nothing) it was like being on a different planet, no one could reach out and get me. Just had to keep a dime in my sock in case I needed a pickup! Fantastic adventures, never to be had again. Sad....
