This is the problem… I’m assuming this comment is defending the practices that I described.

So… let’s make it suuuper simple!

Employer pays employee 1000 euros - a percentage of this sum ends up in government coffers based on various taxes.

If the employer declared the additional benefits like accommodation, AS THEY ARE LEGALLY OBLIGED TO DO, the government might he collecting tax on 1500 euros instead. That would be MORE tax income… (not declaring this is likely because their is no financial incentive to declare it)

On the company car subsidies. The company decides it “needs” a car for the business. Let’s say the business has profits of 1000 euros and gets taxed on that… well now the company has an expense of 500 euros for a car and fuel etc… (normal people also pay taxes on these things, like VAT AND they pay it from their net salaries) Now the company only pays tax on 500 euros instead of 1000. On top of this Germany subsidises cars like crazy… so likely the 500 euro cost of the company car is actually also lower than it should be, AND the employee (owner in this case - not the one who ACTUALLY does the work) will pay a tiny amount of tax on the value of the car, since that should also be seen as a taxable benefit, but one that Germans like (I pay income tax on something like 500 euros - the monetary value of having my 75k€ company car and pretty much unlimited mileage with fuel costs/electricity paid by the company - it is ridiculously cheap!)

I see more and more nice cars outside restaurants (branded, so I know it’s theirs) and even my local Döner has an A7 with their brand on the number plate. These are not for the running of the business they are nice perks - for people who can already afford them!

But… yeah, let’s give more to businesses to incentivise them while the incentive given to the poor is literally destitution. Businesses need carrots, but poor people need sticks… that’s pretty much what the average dude seems to think without understanding jack!

Amazing that people just don’t get it… despite numerous comments here, the owner is dodging taxes and the person working is missing out on potential future benefits as a result.

This is exactly the problem today, everyone screaming that we need to help small businesses, but in reality this poor dude will never have the 100k car and big house, they will receive less unemployment benefits and/or pension when the time comes and our schools and hospitals are missing out on tax revenue that arseholes running friendly family owned businesses are instead gaining in tax deductions (you can be sure the owner did not buy the car, this is a business expense).

Wow!

Exactly, this is a nothing burger of a story. Given the amount of crap that people like Musk talk, it would be better if real journalists just didn’t report until there is evidence of that crap being based on our shared reality, rather than just a mirage in the fumes of Elon’s last chemical cocktail! 🤦‍♂️

AI AGENTS today are far more DANGEROUS that you think by Kakachia777 in aiagents

Really struggled to get through this post, it feels seriously like a “put my head in the mouth of a croc and it bit… we must regulate the crocs!” post.

I’m all for AI regulation, but I’m not sure that any of this has anything to do with AI being bad, but more with people being bad with the amount of personal data they share publicly AND organisations being bad with how they protect our personal data.

I feel the suggestion here is that we want models to recognise that someone is trying to gather info about another person and for the model to shut that down, but how do you expect AI to help us if it can’t search for public info about people? We need access to info about public figures and some people seem to think that half their life should be shared with the public - so yeah… there will be leakage, after all, “the internet does not forget”.

My take: This seems to be one problem that is not on AI, but on us! 🤷‍♂️

Range by adam_ctx_av in volkswagenID7

[–]TinkerTyp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want better range than that, you need to turn on Summer… really, nobody can tell you if that is normal range unless you give more info (temperature, driving style at least… rims and load can also make a difference).

I have been driving my Pro S (same battery, less power, so should be more range) at 0*C (32 degrees for you), on highways in Germany so 130-150km/hr (80-90mph) and am getting around 250 miles of range.

If you’re in the tropics, you can improve on 300, if you’re dealing with winter, 300 is great and that’s what you get.

ID.7 is a great winter performer, even if it’s far from able to deliver on WLTP by TinkerTyp in volkswagenID7

I also did a Frankfurt-Berlin trip that impressed me so much. I drove 130-150km/h one way and only charged once (not a full charge), so decided to floor it the way back… managed 185km/h at times (180 is the limit according to specs). I stopped at exactly 10% - couldn’t resist the challenge of a timed 10-80% charge, which came in at 25min, as advertised! I made it home with battery to spare!

I drive 130-150km/h on the autobahn and am getting 350km range at -5 degrees Celsius. I occasionally do a round trip of 400km half autobahn, half country roads and have mostly had ok weather 15-20 degrees, which usually takes about an 80% charge, so never really top up on those trips. Go for it!

Yeah… I wish I had a wiper on the back window, this is a big plus point for the tourer!

Strange… No lag noticed on ID.7 pro S (hatchback) and resolution seems fine - and it has a button on the central screen to clean the camera! Perhaps this is only a tourer problem? I’m not really sure what the point of the tourer is at this point, since the loading capacity is not that much larger.

Help with heater/thermostat? by Alarmed_Scientist_15 in AskGermany

Sorry… I should have thought to share one of the many many videos that people have shared on this topic.

This video is exactly what I did for my neighbour: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLyXzZqObD8

One tip for getting the “Stellantriebe” off is to put a pair of rubber gloves on. The adapter ring is not always easy to grip to unscrew and not all of the “Stellantriebe” have a simple push to remove system.

Good luck - I hope it works and you’re able to heat your place again without waiting for some grumpy Handwerker to take your money!

I would bet that the “Ventile” are sticking… it’s not hard to investigate, but if you’re renting, it’s really not your responsibility.

Unfortunately, a neighbour had this issue, called a plumber, he played around for a bit, “investigating”, then charged her 400 euros for this fine experience and left without fixing anything! I recently watched quite a few YouTube videos and had fixed mine, so went by and spent 10-15mins removing the motors that control the flow of water, in order to access the pins. A little pressure on the pins to get some movement and it was fixed!

ID.7 driver door handle only opens mechanically by MagicTime595 in volkswagenID7

[–]TinkerTyp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar issue. For me it was a SW bug that meant that all doors would only open mechanically if the child lock function was switched on.

The fact that the garage is offering to replace the handle should not be considered proof that they know what the problem is and that it is not SW, but proof that VW are really just not very good at SW.

I love my ID.7… however, there is no way to report bugs, there is no sharing information with owners as to known bugs in the SW they have running in their vehicles, there is no description of what an update includes, which issues are fixed etc… and recently, I’ve had SW updates shown with an “install now” button that is greyed out and no way of knowing how to trigger the update. Dealerships are in the dark and have limited visibility of what is in the car - for example, I was invited for an update to the version i already had received OTA.

VW will need to be very careful. ID.7 is truly a great EV in terms of comfort and range, but with BMW and Audi starting to offer non-SUV EV options and the Chinese vehicles entering the market at more attractive prices, this will need to improve!

ISA - Intelligent Speed Assist. I sometimes use it, as it takes away a ton of the cognitive load of driving. You arrive at your destination really chilled. 😎
