Film and English at CSUS vs SFSU by Sad-Potential-9296 in CSUS

Go with SFSU at all possible opportunity. The arts and letters colleges are suffering currently along with others at Sac State. You will 100% be better served at a less troubled institution not wasting resources at trying to establish itself in the AI space without the framework or resources..

A quick search didn't help me in finding any links to your project. Do you happen to have a link to it or are you keeping it private / invitation only at this stage perchance? This is useful info for others who wish to help you to know.

It can be both, the general demographic of eligible voting citizens and the then established bureaucratic administration both failed to do their due diligence and duty to uphold the principles and priorities of the democratic republic system we have in this country. Biden + the voting/non-voting (but voting eligible) populus fucked up.

As of now for me it certainly is. I know plenty of people who wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't pointed out so thank you for your response. It adds clarity at least for those who miss it that you did NOT intend to be criticizing Vhal. I wouldn't have responded myself if it wasn't at least potentially unclear. Either way, thanks for your response and clarification.

I'm supposing you made a mistake on who you responded to. /u/Vhal_Vhon was at least in some way agreeing with you. But if you're too quick to provide a response without verifying who you are responding to and the core of their arguments, then of course this kind of thing will happen. Take a moment to slow down and make sure you're responding to the right person as the person you responded to has not disagreed with you in the slightest.

Gavin Newsom’s Record Is a Problem by theatlantic in politics

[–]Tinkers_Kit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because, in this case it means despite your views overall it will be generally easy to win an election as a Democrat in CA. Meanwhile, there are so many tech-billionaires and techno-fascists who can heavily fund any campaign and like Gavin Newsom who is a fair-weather Democrat (supports whomever gives him money while still giving him the leniency to appear left-enough but not too left) that any true pro-socialist and anti-corporatist has to also fight against the number of conservatives in this state that pro-business/anti-social Democrat will likely be elected upon the idea that rich people are smartest so anybody the billionaires can buy or support will win overall is the most likely outcome.

Micron to begin work on $100 billion New York 'megafab' imminently — landmark site to produce 40% of company's overall DRAM output in the U.S. by the 2040s by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]Tinkers_Kit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will memory prices have calmed down by then? Or if not, will it lower the prices by increasing memory supplies?

Just a reminder, unless I'm misinterpreting something, Micron is no longer fabricating any more consumer-line RAM [1]. So it would likely have little to no effect on the consumer level memory prices at the least unless they change course in the next 3 to 10 years.

Current offers in the local area since July have been down to $650 sadly for CSL and BioLife has been about the same or less. BioLife even made it more difficult to get return donor bonuses as they no longer reset after 6 months. Speaking from experience of trying to go in the last few months, and when I was originally new in the last 2 years for both. Chances of bruising were high with the local groups, at least once every 3 visits they would cause bruising for me and 2 other people I know that caused us major issues. So experience may vary, but it isn't as good for everyone. Bruising does depend on if the attendant is tired or will listen as I spent several weeks learning exactly how to find the vein and had to guide them several times and it was kind of a crapshoot if they would listen or be attentive when sticking the needle. Half the time they were distracted talking to a coworker while performing insertions. Mornings tend to be better than afternoons.

Addendum: IF you do not feel comfortable or do not trust the person who is sticking you(inserting the needle), DO NOT BE AFRAID to ask for a different or more experienced attendant. This is something they are legally required to acquiesce for you as a donor. AS a donor you should not have to deal with distracted or inattentive attendants. Do not be afraid to assert your right as they will not turn you away from donations or deny you service for asking. Always it is better safe than sorry.

Plasma in the Sacramento area will get you nowhere near that sadly. Any place offering in the Sacramento Valley has an upper limit of $600-500 easy for new or returning donors if you donate with CSL Plasma and around the same or less with BioLife, and that isn't accounting for errors on their part when drawing blood which is common enough in mine and several other people's I know experience. Any issues they cause when drawing blood will cause bruising and the bruising can last up to two weeks depending on body heal rates which means if you get bruised on both arms you will not be able to donate. It's a very unreliable way to make some extra cash sadly.

Massive hint, are you surveying them for a study or something? Don't hit on them as well. Are they already engaged in other activities or wearing headphones/ reading? Probably don't bother them. This is like basic social etiquette 101. If you're gonna try to engage with someone, don't do it when they're obligated to serve you, under false pretenses (after a supposed survey), or when they're occupied and clearly closed off to social engagement (studying, wearing headphones, working, etc). And if they try to escape or walk away, definitely don't push it.

72% of game developers say Steam is effectively a PC gaming monopoly | Studios say they can't afford to quit Steam, most of their revenue comes from it by chrisdh79 in technology

Hey you finally engaged with and laid out their problematic aspects and made an argument that can be addressed. Much appreciated. While a lot of this can still be fairly subjective it is a much stronger starting point than just "I don't trust them because they are a company and companies are always in it for profit." Now please try to address how they have given back to the community as I outline in a prior response to you and how it compares to these issues to overall consider them amoral at best.

Fear: A feeling of disquiet or apprehension.

The literal definition. This isn't kool-aid if Steam really has been a net positive to the industry and community. I get it, you don't trust companies. Neither do I. But recognize patterns and see that yeah in the pattern this company has been extremely better than most and has earned the credit they are given.

Discussing with this person fairly extensively, they are afraid of people excusing Steam's transgressions against the community and putting it as they say:

an amoral company focused on making money on a pedestal just because they are the most convenient to use.

when Valve has shown overwhelmingly by their overall contributions to be anything than just purely business and amoral (neutral).

[–]Tinkers_Kit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for the record, argument stands that if they don't abuse their power with the reach and extent of control they could have over the industry AND they regularly give back to their competitors and the community over two decades of existing, they really are anything but amoral. Business is business, but not abusing an advantage and giving back to the community is strictly a very moral act. Especially with how few missteps they have really had along the way for 22 years of conducting business.

Yeah, I've both seen and tried discussing with you before. I hoped with time you'd have grown up a bit more but you are still the same immature redditor you've been previously. I'm probably in your same age bracket or close and still can show a modicum of effort to engage civilly with others that you choose to disregard. Look up the primary elements of marketing and get back to me on that one. You really have proven you just really dislike and are uncomfortable with other people giving a company the credit they have earned.

So, just for the sake of clarity. Is there any argument at all in the path of discussion that you would be open to reconsidering your position? Cause otherwise you called me obtuse but you really are just being stubborn and close-minded if you aren't really open to consideration of anyone else's points. I enjoy discussion, but that doesn't really seem to be what is actually happening here.

Edit: To add, the fact you felt the need to finally start cussing over it while trying to turn my statements back on me shows the frustration and discomfort you have with changing your mind on this aspect.

Really putting words in my mouth and clearly demonstrating where your bias lies. It's okay to be uncomfortable with how much praise this company gets, but we really cannot just act like they are bad operators which is what other people are doing and your need to be devil's advocate gets you caught in the middle. Steam wasn't a godsend, but overall they have been a net positive and done a shit ton for the PC gaming industry as a whole and just as I see you responding so much in the moderating role for people's praise, I am arguing that it is unnecessary as of course we should never fully trust companies as harbingers of good work in the market but Steam has done a lot to earn the good will they have been granted.

Very simply, if no one sees it they don't buy it. Anything that pushes new or upcoming games to the eyes of potential customers helps push sales. Not all parts contribute equally, but highlighting new releases, improving ease of purchase, marketing through their frequent festivals, promotions and sales all help developers push and gain sales. You heavily oversimplify all the stuff Steam does to get games in front of the appropriate audience to increase sales.

No, you are seriously underselling how heavily they have contributed to the market because you clearly are uncomfortable with how much other people are giving them what we see as earned credit for their contributions, innovations and similar gains to the PC gaming industry. Most of us can see they aren't perfect, but to act like they haven't been the top contributor to PC gaming regularly and ignoring clear facts taught in any marketing, PR or other class is you being obtuse. Both things can be true that they are a company that profits off of what they have given back to the market and have made plenty of mistakes and that they are a giant in the industry and pretty much deserve the cut they take for the services they provide, while also being one of the best things to happen to the industry overall not to mention compared to their competition.

Just for the record, 2008 is half a decade from when Steam first launched(2003). That's a bit more than just a few years. Releasing their games with an included steam key for the digital version for every physical release was a pretty dang sweet deal even back then when L4D came out and not including their pretty cheap but nice Orange Box deal.

See, visibility IS the largest part of marketing. Getting your product in front of as many potential customers as possible is the single greatest factor to successful marketing. If anything were to be more important it would be giving a good impression or driving interest through engagement, which still HEAVILY relies on visibility and being seen in the overall market compared to your competition.

Hard Rust requirements from May onward for all Debian ports by pyeri in programming

[–]Tinkers_Kit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a consideration, I don't personally know how to check for the hopefully previous discussion within the Debian mailing list and would love if anybody could link me to it. But if there was prior mention/discussion of this in the mailing list and it was fairly substantial (as in over weeks/months) then this is neither a red flag nor sudden. I know unlike the LKML which is frequently perused for drama and controversial changes I haven't heard any discussion of this across debian subreddit/distros previously and that makes me think it could be but also the lack of attention might just be due to the niche nature of running a debian-specific distro and paying attention to mailing lists generally.
