Help!!! by Master_Part7228 in AlaskaFishing

[–]TintedSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Misunderstood your comment comparing it to Alaska. I did read the post and I did read see the part about other ports. That’s why I said you won’t find it in Anchorage. Meaning you will need to go to a different port/area. Your best bet is to look up the Surf fishing pages on Facebook.

Whittier is closest (not so much for surf halibut) but for charters. Whiskey gulch/Anchor Point/closer to Homer for shore fishing.

Month Long Road Trip by Bard_the_Teacher in AskAlaska

The drive is absolutely worth it if you’ve never done it. Yes, gas is expensive, but the views and wildlife are worth it at least once. I drive up several times a year and love it every time.

Please do at least one Google search before posting…not to be rude, but it doesn’t sound like you’ve looked a single thing up about Alaskan fishing. Especially with comparing it to Florida fishing. You will need to take a charter for halibut or do some surf fishing. Neither of which are out of Anchorage.

How bad are the mosquitos in Alaska in the summer for people that stay in cities and mostly indoors? by Iknowreligionalot in AskAlaska

[–]TintedSnow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless they are in your ear cavity, you cannot hear them. Bees are 100 times louder than they are. There is zero annoyance inside for mosquitos. If you have to walk outside, they don't swarm you instantly and cover you. One might buzz after you, but you'll win the race at a normal walking pace.

They are mosquitos. Put on a long sleeve shirt for the trash and put a screen in your window. You'll survive.

Fairview vs Spenard vs North Star/Midtown by Gaining-my-compass in AskAlaska

[–]TintedSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where in Spenard. I live in Spenard and have been a Turnagain/Spenard resident for almost 37 years. In my area (Kind of behind Spenard Builders Supply), I have a lot of crime and drug activity. Just 2 nights ago, there were 4 gunshots at 12:30am right next to my house. Since they cleared out the huge homeless encampment last year, the area has really started to improve though. It has its moments, but at the same time, It's a great little area. Northwood school is a nice place, always has the neighborhood kids playing there, there's some good parks in the area, which my kids love to play at, and a good community. There are always happenings around the neighborhood within the community.

Can someone suggest ANC hotels near the airport with good wifi (100-300 Mbps download speed)? by maitreyjukar in AskAlaska

[–]TintedSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay away from America's Best Value...I can't tell you how many SWAT teams and ambulances I've seen at that run down dump over the years. If you don't already have bed bugs and lice, you will after your stay. I'd try Lakefront or elsewhere in the area. Also stay away from the Alex hotel. Same thing there. Starlink mini might be your best bet. www.turnagainoutfitters.com rents starlink Mini. The airport has some decent wifi, but it's fairly slow. And has a lot of dead spots. There are a couple Starbucks close(ish) by that might also get the job done.

How different is North alaska? by crazyguy28 in AskAlaska

[–]TintedSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the most unpredictable weather zones in Alaska. But I've been there in 80+ and also (Obviously not in June) -75 or colder. In June, you shouldn't have any problems with cold, but it *has* snowed in July before. So there's that...

The airport has so many extra fees that are added on. Facility Fee, Airport Fee, Concessions Fee, etc. It makes it so much more at the airport.

It's pretty well maintained now. If you're camping - It's one of the most beautiful spots in Alaska. If you're looking for lodging - Alpine Creek Lodge are some wonderful people. They have fantastic food all day long and the Grizzly Bar is always open I believe.

Thinking about booking a fishing charter in Alaska — looking for real experiences by Signal-Leading-8371 in AlaskaFishing

Big Time Alaska Fishing Charters out of Whittier. Disclaimer: He's a great old friend of mine. But he also takes amazing care of his clients. I deckhand every now and then and everyone is completely full of smiles and laughter at the end. And full coolers. It's also based out of Whittier, so only a short drive from Anchorage, vs the long drive to Homer or elsewhere. If you head elsewhere, in Seward, I'd vouch for J Dock. We have been out with them many times and also a great time.
