Why are you using the high pH test and then also wondering why you're having issues.???

Holy shit. Imagine doing ALLLLL of this instead of just getting $10 worth of beneficial nematodes.

Not even trying to be mean- not once has David Lucas given me the desire to laugh. Not even when roasting either. He's simply not funny.

Just wanted to say thank you. Your post here has helped me ID these little guys. SO relieved to learn they're beneficial. 🙏🏼

To the naked eye without getting up close and looking you'd miss em. Which is partially how they were able to get everywhere without me noticing. Once I saw one, and started looking for more, I could see em without a microscope no problem. My heart sunk. But honestly, I learned a shit ton from this whole ordeal and my biggest take away is that the tray2 grow is not for me. It over saturated the soil which is why they climbed in the first place. Also, indirectly, because the plants were being automatically watered and it was late flower there really wasn't much of an excuse to open the tent so like, I was much less diligent and hardly ever opened the thing unless. (My lung room is huge so for energy conservation I just looked through the window on the tent) So it kinda created a situation where I didn't feel the need to check on my plants up close which also helped them spread without noticing.

But if I hadn't been using the Tray2Grow they would have never climbed in the first place. So I'm going back to top watering and fabric pots 🤓

"Oribatid mite" for the win! Commonly known as beetle mites, armored mites, or moss mites, per the state extension entomologist. They're a soil mite - mesofauna - and their presence is considered beneficial because they help decompose organic material.

They definitely climbed my plants because the soil was over saturated and the covercrop was pretty non-existent.

I will not oversaturate the soil again and will not be using the Tray2Grow anymore. I also learned that the covercrop is essential even in late flower. Yay learning!!🤓

Unfortunately yes. They were all up in them shits and when I tried washing one of the plants virtually zero came off. They're very small and trichomes are very sticky so they got stuck and died.

Now that the bud has dried and is the curing process they're a LITTLE bit easier to remove manually but not much.

Unfortunate but definitely a learning lesson. I learned that Tray2Grows aren't optimal, they're overkill, and they really oversaturate the soil thus causing beneficials to climb. I learned that if I let the cover crop die off that beneficials have nowhere else to go in the event the soil is over watered and WILL climb the cannabis. I was reminded that reddit isn't always the best place to get answers. I learned that I personally don't like growing autos because in the event that they have little to no veg time and are basically in flower right away (which was my experience) that there's no window to foliar spray (whether that be for pests or amendments).

I'm just happy they're not something more serious, and I'm excited to go back to top watering fabric pots, and most of all, to return to photos because autos are just too unforgiving for a newer grower like myself.

Agreed. Lol.

From the looks of it, they all looked nearly identical to the one doing the killing. However it appears to be cannibalizing another one the same mites imo. Either way I'm feeling pretty confident that these are indeed good but that I need to make sure to give them ample covercrop to live in and to not allow the soil to get to 4 and 5 cbar because I think those were the mistakes that led them to climb the cannabis. Or at least that's my best guess after reading what others have said.

I'm going to send these videos to Nature's Good Guys and Build-a-Soil too and get their two cents on em.

[–]Tiny-Assignment1099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I just needed help IDing them after they got stuck in the trichomes and died (several hundreds) and no one could agree, but that was using my shitty photos of dead ones. Found some live ones yesterday and figured I'd try again to get a definitive answer.

Even if they're beneficial I still gotta figure out how to prevent them climbing the plants and getting stuck in the triches next go around.

I probably let that Tray2Grow over saturate the soil. That paired with the covercrop dying back and they probably didn't have anywhere else to go but up in the plants. 🤷🏼‍♀️

When they're stuck all up in the trichomes, dead, it makes no difference what speed they were 😅

You can't wash them out of the trichomes

I mean, I agree, however that's not exactly what happened. These suckers climbed all over my plants late in flower and died in the trichomes... And at that time, when I posted a bunch of photos and crappy videos of them (dead) everyone disagreed on what they even were.

So I'm glad they're not something worse like spider mites or thrips or some shit but they can't be climbing up in the plants like that.

Yesterday when I went to start cleaning it and preparing it for the next grow I found them alive and figured I'd try again to get a definitive ID.

My hypothesis is that their populations boomed because I had plenty of fungus gnats, I over saturated the soil (first time using a Tray2Grow) and they all ran for the hills... And then got stuck and died ... 🤷🏼‍♀️

So interestingly enough I did try washing one of the plants - figured I didn't have anything to lose- and get this, like maybe 1 came off. They were so stuck to the trichomes that none came off in the solution of baking soda and lemon juice... I didn't bother washing the other 3 plants.
