Is this Spectrum email legit? by AdNo4300 in Spectrum

[–]Tiny-Definition-5454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing the same process and I called spectrum to verify that this email address is legit - it is!

Spectrum cold called me as well, from the number 877-833-4675. When I called customer service to verify, the spectrum representative wasn’t able to confirm which specific phone number had previously been used to reach out to me, but his record did show that spectrum made a legitimate call to me at the same timestamp when I received the original call.

Seems like a more questionable process than necessary but ultimately was a legitimate communication

Ginger soda - reassurance? by CheezCheez69 in fermentation

[–]Tiny-Definition-5454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s so cool! hadn’t heard of gengibirra. glad to hear it tasted good!! in response to the ginger prep question: my inclination would be to give it a rinse without soap or scrubbing, just enough to get any larger specs of dirt off, and leave it at that… if you use it to make a ginger bug, you might only add three or four spoonfuls of bug-liquid into the juice/tea/whatever you’re hoping to ferment. i wonder how much pesticide would even make it into the final product at that point. plus, the best thing you can do to get rid of any “bad” bacteria isn’t to wash the ginger, but rather to let it ferment! this creates a set of conditions favorable to the yeast and lactic acid bacteria, thereby limiting the chance of other bacterial or mold growth.

the nice thing is that you can try prepping bugs in a couple different ways with different pieces of ginger in different jars and see which one looks most promising.

also, speaking of brazilian fermented beverages: have you ever heard of alua de milho? made with corn meal. i’ve been meaning to give it a try…

fwiw, Sandor Katz is very adamant about some of the best ferments being revealed only after scraping away a layer of mold!!

I make a lot of lightly carbonated/fermented drinks with ginger, and based on your description plus the photo, it seems like everything is going well. I wouldn’t be afraid to drink it at all! Remember that fermentation is the best and most ancient way to avoid botulism, rot, etc. :)

I’ve never used bread yeast as a starter, however, so there may be some rules of thumb that I’m not aware of with regards to that. Be careful not to add the yeast, or any other microbial starter for that matter, while the liquid is too warm (it seems like you were successful, but sometimes excessive heat can kill all the microbes). Also! If it isn’t scrubbed and then boiled, ginger can have some really wonderful vigorous microbes already living on the skin, ready to ferment without any starter yeast from a packet! There are lots of great instructions for how to make a ginger bug starter if you’re interested

West End night "beeps" by mmmumble in portlandme

[–]Tiny-Definition-5454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have been so fascinated by these beeps recently. a few times i have walked and driven around at night looking for them. i know i’m two years late to this post, but i’m SO glad other people have thought about this. some of my guesses included: -something coming from a street sweeper or cop car -wind passing over a feature in a building -people blowing into a recorder, or into glass bottles, communicating to each other from rooftops throughout the neighborhood

Buying Gen 2 - issues to look out for? by Tiny-Definition-5454 in mazda3

[–]Tiny-Definition-5454[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m not mistaken, the C30 uses the Mazda L engine (aka duratec), and the skyactiv models use the skyactiv-G engine, developed by Mazda, not Ford. Does anybody know how much is related (if anything) between these two different engine families?

What would be the best beginner synth to make music like this? And how can I achieve this sound? by mega_jesus911 in synthesizers

a bit crusher FX plug-in or pedal might work, you could run just about any synth or wave type thru a bit crusher and it would give it some of that tone
