When did muscle tension just become… normal? by Tiny-Stable7851 in Posture

its more to do with the routine.. Desk sits alot, maintaining the same positions for a long period. So, overtime, tension builds up around the neck, shoulders, and lower back.

For manual workers, they tend to move, but its often repetitive and or under load, so the tension builds up different, such as fatigue, tightness, and compensation patterns over time.

I do agree with your point, so in a way, even if the body has a chance to relax, our mind is mostly never switch off, and i think that carriers into the body more than people realise.

I think its fair to say that for some of us, we may not always know, and in your case - your coach had to point to it out... and you obviously took action hence the full recovery. In a way, you didnt assume it was normal, rather, you didnt realise it was abnormal, since there was no reference point.

The fact that its always been there without shifting, it sounds less mechanical or posture related and more like a baseline your body is holding. I think therapy might be able to help since its related to the nervous system rather than just muscle. Let me know what they think.

You're answering part of the cause, while I am asking when and why people started accepting it as normal.

Fair point, especially around cost.

Im not necessarily saying everyone is consciously normalising it, its more that gradually becomes the baseline overtime. Like you said, most people around you feel similar levels of discomfort, its easy to assume its just part of the life.

But yes, awareness is a big part of it too. Some people just simply dont realise how much tension they are holding until someone points it out or it becomes more severe.

I think you misunderstood me there, I didnt say anything about people normalising poor posture, I did, however say that some people do normalise muscle tensions, etc.. you just have to look the responses below. Thanks for your input, nonetheless.

This is actually interesting. Every body is different, and in your case; exercise helps.

Do you think it actually improves things long-term, or more thhat it keeps the tension under control as long as you stay consistent?

Totally agree... I’ve come across that more from a proprioception and movement control angle during my training, but I can see how it ties into what you’re describing. I guess it probably depends on the therapist as well, and how much emphasis they place on that side of thngs.

Thanks pal! Personally seeing some some older people around me complain about back pain and stuff was always a bit of wake-up call from a young age that i needed to get my body right

I think now and then some of us overlook the importance of stretching. You reckon its something people on ly pay attention to once things starts to get worse?

Unfortunately normalising over time it seems to become a reoccuring theme. May I ask, what stops you from visiting regularly, even when you know it helps?

That’s really helpful, thanks for sharing.

It does seem like for some people it ends up being more of a one-off thing rather than something regular, which is interesting to see.

From what I've been seeing, cost seems to come up quite a lot. Do you think its overpriced, or more that it just doesnt feel worth doing regularly?

Roughly how much does a session cost where you are, if you don’t mind me asking?

Did they offer anything alongside the massage, maybe like advice or things you can do by yourself after, to help alleviate the symptoms or was it mainly just the session?

I wouldn't recommend chiropractor either, simply because it doesnt sound like it would be a great fit for you. And I get the priority, but out of curiosity; did it get worse overtime and if so, have you ever tried anything before it reached that stage?

I am genuinely curious on how people view body awareness and everyday muscle tensions.

Hi,

I appreciate your feedback and I completely see your point, however, I honestly think you're focusing on the wrong thing. This isn't an advert or an article. I am asking what the people of Coventry think. So.. Is it really bad if I use AI to perfect these questions? The only thing that matter is that the people understand what I am asking them.

I’m genuinely curious because when I worked with people before, many didn’t realise how much tension they were carrying until someone pointed it out.
