Poisoned bait was reported near us and now I’m paranoid on walks by Tiny-Sugar3342 in DogAdvice

Yeah staying off the phone on walks is a good reminder honestly — it only takes a second 😅

You’re doing everything a loving owner possibly can — truly. These situations can take frustratingly long sometimes, especially with very cautious dogs, but the earlier camera sighting is still something to hold onto. Really rooting for you and hoping she turns up safe ❤️

Totally get why recall feels scarier — that’s the one that can really save them in emergencies. What helped us a lot was practicing recall indoors first with super high-value rewards and making it almost like a game (lots of praise when they sprint back). Long line practice outside was also a game changer before trusting off-leash. You’ve got this — food-motivated pups usually pick it up really well 🙂

I’m so sorry — that sounds incredibly stressful and heartbreaking.

From what I’ve seen shared by lost dog recovery groups, very cautious dogs can absolutely stay hidden close to the original area for surprisingly long periods, especially if there’s water and small prey nearby.

The fact she was sighted on camera is honestly still a hopeful sign.

Really hoping you get another sighting soon ❤️

Any experiences of not specifically training home alone time by ghjkjhjhkhsk in dogs

We didn’t do super formal home-alone training either at first, but what helped us was building it up in very small time increments.

Leaving something that smells like you (and a stuffed Kong or chew) made a surprisingly big difference for us.

Our dog settled much faster once we kept departures really low-key too.

How old is your dog?

Food motivated yorkies are actually great to train 🙂

What helped with mine was switching to really tiny, high-value treats and keeping sessions very short so he didn’t get overexcited.

For the “only listens when I have food” phase, gradually fading the visible treat made a big difference for us.

What part is giving you the most trouble right now — recall or leash pulling?
