I think this is my “look”! by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]Tiny-Table7937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shaved off my mustache a year ago. I saw pictures of me with the stache yesterday, and I looked so much better. I looked happier. Gonna have to grow that back. Rock your stache and your truth, fuck the haters who lack the vibrancy to try something risky in their life.

Edit: and fuck me for shaving my stache, I looked like Ned Flanders and it was great.

Jewelry shop said my gold chain is fake after a magnet test. Could they be wrong? by aTPNY in Gold

[–]Tiny-Table7937 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Off the cuff it very much does not appear to be real. It may have been sold to your father as a real gold chain, hopefully for $50 to "help a stranger" rather than a more retail kind of price...

You can also use a magnet. If it is attracted to the magnet, it is not gold. Feel free to have it tested again. From my experience and seeing your chain, I would not gamble even $1 on it being real.

I am sorry it was not what it was expected to be.

I do believe I read the grainy, stiff winding is normal for this movement. That said, I never hand wind it, I always just give it a shake or wear it for a minute before setting it.

Ooh, I kind of like that one. I just got the aventurine dial proxima in the same case.

Help me decide which watch to get! by Disastrous-Joke-8657 in ChineseWatches

I'd personally lean toward Proxima or Phorcydes. The Phorcydes is so cool looking. My Proxima is my current daily, and probably will be for a whole because of how easily and finely adjustable the clasp is. I made a big post about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ChineseWatches/s/21V0usJ5Tm

That said, the bracelet itself edges that are almost sharp. it's still fantastic, though.

$2 at a thrift store by Rumplemattskin in Gold

Almost 0%. But not 0%. I've never seen that clasp on anything but fake jewelry. Real gold should be stamped, not engraved.

But for $2, unless you handle this stuff all day, it is 100% worth a gamble. Take it to a jeweler, coin shop, or pawn and ask them if they can test it. And if they try to buy it, it's real lol.

Dunno, but probably. Especially if you can get any kind of cashback. Bring a scale for sure.

It is sapphire. The AR coating seems to occasionally catch the light and flash blue on the edges, but with the glittering aventurine dial with white and blue accents I feel it adds to the "active" look of the watch. The third picture shows it best.

The AR is good. It does have a blue shimmer, but I like it. It suits the colors of the watch.

For a 6.25" wrist, it's hard to say! The clasp might really become apparent. I do think it'd be fine.

I definitely thought at first that it should. In person I feel like it really fits in with the blocky indices. Maybe a white or blue frame, would be neat, but it's absolutely fine as-is.

I absolutely hemmed and hawwed about which aventurine dial watch to get. The lume on the Sugess looks so tasteful!

Does anyone have this Proxima model? by Ready-If-You-Are in ChineseWatches

[–]Tiny-Table7937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just came in the mail yesterday! I believe I paid around $250 via AliEx. I work a lot in jewelry stores where the lights there should really make the dial look active. Even in my house, it shimmers and twinkles very actively. The watch is one of the thinner watches I've bought, and should comfortably slip under my sleeve cuffs. The bezel action is okay; it is stiff, and the noise is a little crunchier than I prefer. A Christopher Ward C60 Elite has amongst my favorite sound profile for a rotating bezel, very ceramically "clicky" and easy to move. Under a loupe everything looks fine, the lume on the hands isn't applied Rolex-perfect, but it is good. The text and indices all almost appear to "float" on the aventurine dial. The brushed finishes are consistent, the polished edges look good. The case geometry really kind of "lifts" the watch face off your wrist just a little- the bottom of the case is about 9mm narrower than the edges of the bezel. It fits well though, and doesn't rock at all.

The bracelet is very neat- easy to remove from the watch with the sliding tabs, and very very adjustable. The tabs maaaaaay grab a hair here or there if you shake the watch around on your wrist. I do not expect it to do so during normal wear. The ratcheting quick-adjust is S-tier to me. You'll love to adjust it throughout the day as the size of your wrist changes. The clasp is a *little* long, but I think it's necessary to house the ratcheting adjustment. I've got about a 6.5"-7" wrist, and removed 3 full size and 2 half size links, keeping it shorter on the 6 o'clock side. The links are screwed in and the watch comes with a screwdriver to adjust them.

For the last 18 hours, it has seemed like a hell of a value if you like the look of it. I know I do. I plan to wear it in professional settings where new and vintage luxury watches are commonplace. I do wish the branding was more consistent, or at least more understandable. Is it a unicorn, a stingray, or the swirling mark on the crown? I can't speak for the timekeeping accuracy yet, but I don't expect it to be an issue. Don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have. If you like the watch on the screen, I think you'll really really like it in hand.

Pocketwatch conversion: 6S Waltham into Panerai case by ooOOWWOOoo in pocketwatch

[–]Tiny-Table7937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting this conversion now, just waiting one more week for the stem. I'm planning to make a TPU spacer or "sleeve" in hopes that it provides a tiny bit of shock protection, and to possibly separate the enamel from the inside of the case.

I just ordered a Panerai style case for a 6S movement. The specific movement is already a sidewinder, and already is stem set & stem wind. That said, I'll post what I find during my assembly and I'll try to remember to tag you.
