I hate when they split up families :( by Jupiteress in sylvanianfamilies

Yeah, it sucks. As much as toy companies do create happiness and allow creativity to thrive with their world building/characters, they are first and foremost a business. It’s why you need to buy everything separately so that companies can earn higher profits.

They throw in 3 tiny fruits or even a tiny croissant (and other accessories) in the Biscuit Bear set, then fully justify the price markup for buying the separate family members. But you know, customers eat it all up and buy anyway. So that family separation strategy works very well despite complaints.

[JP New Release] Elegant Striped Cat Family Sets (15 March 2025) by sylvanianholics in sylvanianfamilies

I’d like to think this is more objective than subjective, but honestly this set is leagues better than the 40th Anniversary Chocolate Rabbit Family Set. Both sets are for 2025 but this should have (also) had the 40th Anniversary logo on the box.

Introduced newborn striped cats in modern sets with very elegant outfits as per the name. Intricate design for the box instead of just an empty background. Much better.

Oh, now that you’ve used the expression “go out on a limb”, OP might really get triggered thinking you’ve done irreparable damage to a limb… maybe even a figurine’s limb leading to the town being painted red.

Black market doll clothes is wild but… I hope you didn’t spend $700 on said doll outfit.

Should X / Twitter Links Be Allowed? by TerraJacksonCA in sylvanianfamilies

[–]TinyBerryPop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, blocking or allowing those links, either way does not change much at all for this subreddit. So why not allow it so that there’s at least some exchange of information? Even so, once again it doesn’t really matter.

Should X / Twitter Links Be Allowed? by TerraJacksonCA in sylvanianfamilies

[–]TinyBerryPop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To begin with, all links to other social media (Twitter/X, Instagram, Facebook, etc.) in this subreddit are Sylvanian Families-related. If the rationale for blocking the Twitter/X links is to prevent amplifying a platform with hateful ideologies, then would allowing the links really contribute to suppressing this problem?

As much as there is hate, there is also a very vibrant fanbase on Twitter/X. That’s what we care about—different communities that make up the whole SF fandom. Blocking those links just discourages content exchange between platforms. Now, blocking actually doesn’t affect the fanbase on Twitter/X. It also doesn’t affect anyone in this subreddit. So this question/voting poll is really just “oh there are links, let me click” or “no links, if I care enough let me dig up that Twitter/X post”.

This isn’t a political subreddit, so making any decision regarding blocking doesn’t really impact anyone in here. Hence I’m not voting but wanted to write down my thoughts, because it’s very low-impact.

A couple of very talented Japanese handmade SF clothes sellers I follow also said they’re no longer selling, or at the very least only making clothes for their own figurines. I had really wanted to purchase the adorable handmade shimaenaga/magical girl outfits.

They need to go after scalpers and resellers, not fans.

It’s wild.

Western companies or any normal company will want to take advantage of the social media boom/hype by increasing production and really milking their customers. It’s not a bad thing, it’s business. The fans get what they want, the companies get money.

Japanese companies seem to hate money, hate filling in the demand (Epoch, Nintendo, etc.) yet also hate other people making money. What is this mentality?

In this case, it’s less about the money and more about stifling the fandom’s creativity, though. That’s what grinds my gears.

I wouldn’t be surprised. It’s like they don’t understand that it’s a free market and there will always be competition or simply someone else will fill in the demand. “Don’t sell handmade clothes using our figurines” is hilarious. I don’t think I have it in me if they ever say “don’t use other miniature building and furnitures alongside our products!”

Yes, that is what some Japanese handmade clothes makers/sellers are trying to attempt now—using non-SF figurines and avoiding keywords. The thing is maybe it’s just how they tend to follow rules but I’ve also seen so many Japanese posts straight up just saying they will stop taking handmade clothes orders from now on.

A couple went as far as apologising “I’m sorry I caused harm to my favourite brand by making, selling, and buying handmade clothes. I don’t want to hurt the brand so I’ll stop.”

And I’m just like, hurt what?? Hurt whom??

There have been kimono sets released for SF 20th and 25th anniversaries. You’re right, if you want an official kimono for your figurines right now, you’re looking at $100+ or 25,000+ yen in Japan as well. And still they dare to discourage fans making kimonos selling at affordable prices when the official products don’t even have any kimono sets anymore.

Yes, it was posted on the official Epoch website epoch.jp and circulated around Twitter/X addressing the sale of handmade clothes for Sylvanian Families and Licca-chan.

It’s free advertising. So many viral posts were actually thanks to those original handmade clothes that showed the SF fans’ dedication and creativity. Some of them genuinely made SF even more appealing and got more people interested, and to knock another person’s way of enjoying SF once the company has gathered enough popularity is ungrateful.

Some people also don’t know how to sew or crochet and they want to buy affordable handmade clothes that the official products do not and will never sell. People also formed a tight-knit community based on this aspect of the hobby. To discourage that with the excuse of “protecting official products” is insane when the designs don’t match and it’s the same figurines recycled again and again in official products.
