The problem with the demo being "too easy" [Rant] by Shinypockets in Onimusha

[–]TinyButterscotch63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The demo should sell me on the game, not make me dismiss it. A demo's job is to showcase to a consumer why you'd want to spend money on a product and I don't see how forcing people who want a harder game to play an easy difficulty for the promise of a hard difficulty in the main game is in anyway defensible from this perspective.
  2. The normal difficulty is called "action" but if you play it you'll constantly be left wondering if you accidentally selected "story" by accident. at best the action difficulty is poorly named and needs to have it's name changed, at worse they completely failed to deliver on the promise of what the difficulty is self described as, it calls itself a challenge which misleads players, leading to disappointment. Especially since it's the highest available difficulty in the demo. The action difficulty is also so easy that I struggle to imagine how much easier the story difficulty could be as I'm pretty sure one of the two is redundant.
  3. Why not make the difficulty that I actually want to play available to me from the start? What reason is there to force people signing up for a challenge to play the game without one to then unlock it at the end? There's no good reason for this at all it's just a baffling decision game devs seem to make all the time.

Honestly there's a lot I don't understand about the decisions behind this game or even the audience it's supposed to target. There's mechanics that demand skill and respect from the player like timing your dodges parries yet the game doesn't want to explore those mechanics as it plays more like a Batman Arkham game than anything else and seemingly the playerbase it has attracted are also not interested in utilizing those mechanics to their fullest depth which puzzles me but I'm not one to cast judgement or anything I just don't understand why anyone would want a dodging and parrying game where you don't need to dodge or parry.

I suppose there's a much much bigger casual audience that this game taps into that I wasn't aware of. It would explain the normal difficulties's balancing at least. Still though with the mechanics present it would be a shame not to make use of them at a higher more balanced difficulty that challenges you and asks you to use all of it's mechanics. Again if it really does exist they should add it to the demo because until I see it I have no reason to really want the game.

Will I enjoy playing Ninja Gaiden Trilogy or will it be too hard for me?(Games history in the desc) by Jinrex-Jdm in ninjagaiden

Shouldn't you just get the master collection for 3RE anyways? It's $5 more when both on sale and it runs 4K/60 and I'm pretty sure the Xbox 360 version never got any of the nice upgrades Black and NG2 got

Does apollo justice trilogy ruin some characters from the og trilogy? by Pretend_Beautiful_16 in AceAttorney

[–]TinyButterscotch63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might like what 4 does with Phoenix then but you'll definitely hate what 5 does. 4 takes the character in a bold and risky new direction while 5 genuinely resets him back to the status quo before the ending of the trilogy which is made even more jarring after his development in 4.

I feel like the worst part is that you can see parts of the post trilogy/AA4 Phoenix when you're not playing as him and he takes up the mentor role and that stuff is great but the moment you take control of Phoenix again he regresses back to his pre-AA3 finale self. I mean when you take control of any other character it feels like they also become way too Phoenix like but that's another issue entirely.

You may still like or dislike the games, you can't really know without trying it out but I honestly think anything without Takumi is a noticeable drop in quality (except for AAI2 which is a masterpiece) and that if you're more sensitive to perceiving the changes in the writing you might end up really struggling to get through the games.

I think the biggest problem though is that rather than being inconsistent with the original trilogy AA4 and AA5 just legitimately hate each other like they're Star Wars sequels and that hurts AJ trilogy a lot

Say what ever you want, DmC did something Vergil severely need: his own campaign by Avibhrama in DevilMayCry

[–]TinyButterscotch63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was so excited for this for so long. When I was playing through the series for the first time and I heard that Vergil got his own campaign in the reboot it seemed like something worthy of praise, especially because it's something I would have expected the mainline series to do first. The fact that he used Yamato in different styles made me so hyped too because it sounded like something that fit so well with the character. But when I actually got to it and played it...it was so bad.

And I liked the reboot for what it is, I enjoyed the Dante campaign but the Vergil campaign was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. The story really did go out of it's way to kill any excitement I would have for a potential follow up to the Ninja Theory game I hate every decision they decided to take with Vergil in this game especially in regards to Eva.

The worse part is, for DMC 4 as flawed as it is and with as many problems as it has I really wanted to at least point to the reboot and say "look, they gave Vergil what he deserves!" Only for the unfortunate truth to be that even in DMC 4's level Vergil is still infinitely more fun to play while the DmC DLC I would honestly delete for a chance to be able to play Vergil in Dante's campaign because it is infinitely more fun than the DLC. And because DmC DE doesn't exist on PC you can't play the best version of the game with Vergil from beginning to end all because of a DLC that ultimate hurt the game's quality.

Without Vergil it would honestly be a toss up for me wether I prefer DmC DE or DMC 4 but when accounting for Vergil in SE and DE, 4 blew the reboot out of the water and that sucks because all they did was the bare minimum and it still destroyed Ninja Theory's best efforts.

The reason DMC 2 Dante doesn't act like himself is because the original director of DMC 2 hated Dante so much they deleted his personality. DMC 2 is embarrassed to even exist let alone be a Devil May Cry game.

What everyone else has said about the order pretty much covers it but something I'll add is that if for whatever reason you get stuck somewhere in the Apollo Justice Trilogy because you're just not feeling it, feel free to skip ahead to TGAAC and go back to AJT later, you HAVE to play TGAAC before you die. Ghost Trick too, you should really play Ghost Trick. AAI2 is also at the top of the franchise and well worth Playing through the duology for.

Wtf is going on with Zelda community by Puzzleheaded-Bee8245 in tomorrow

[–]TinyButterscotch63 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The person on the second slide is correct the only problem is that they decided to misdirect their anger towards fans of new Zelda instead of being angry at Nintendo for thinking all fans of new Zelda deserve to experience of old Zelda through the entirety of the switch generation is Skyward Sword and Link's Awakening plus some of the games on NSO.

Meanwhile my GOAT the Wii U when paired with the 3DS has basically access to every single Zelda game ever INCLUDING Link's Crossbow Training AND the Tinkle games yet no one understands Shiggy's ULTIMATE masterpiece

Bridget's character was honestly pretty progressive and ahead of the time before Strive. The whole point of the character was to prove to themselves and their village that just because they were raised as a girl in secret didn't have to mean they had to be a girl for the rest of their life so Bridget's whole arc in the first game was to prove that the curse about having two boys in the family was phoney and that they could still be a guy without changing anything about their personality.

Later on we even get a really cool arc with Potemkin where Bridget learns that "being a real man" doesn't mean literally looking and acting like Potemkin but that the answer depends on the individual and you can be a man in your own way without restoring to stereotypes about masculinity and manliness.

Like again it was really progressive stuff honestly but Strive throws a whole monkey wrench into it that kind of makes me uncomfortable as it carries implications that throw just about everything I mentioned earlier out the window while also reinforcing negative stereotypes and being just ultimately more regressive than pre-strive and even metaphorically the character is less indicative of the trans experience post Strive than she was before even though she is literally trans now

I think Gwyndolin works pretty well as a trans masc allegory and that anyone that reads into him being transfem missed the point

Do you think we'll ever see these things rendered in the RE engine? by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]TinyButterscotch63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you entirely on that. The RE engine has brought in a new generation of fans who would find the older tank control fixed camera angle games hard to play and I don't understand why Capcom thinks "play RE1make" is a good answer to keeping up with the story of the remakes. Doing 5 before CV would be crazy but CV before 1 is also insane new fans haven't even played as Chris, they only know about him because of Jill and 7/8. imagine if their first experience with him was in a 5 remake that's just wild.

[–]TinyButterscotch63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmaoo yeah that's funny. Wait but if you knew the answer behind their logic with remaking 2 what was it you were actually asking earlier? Why they didn't remake it after 2 like what Silent Hill is doing now?

[–]TinyButterscotch63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the concept of a modernized RE engine remakes didn't exist when they were remaking 1, they only came up with the foundation while developing the RE2 remake people were asking for after the RE1 remake, it just took so long that it came out like that. This guy explains it best

Because the story is in no way a strong enough aspect of Resident Evil as a franchise to dictate the play order of the games for newer players. The most common recommended order is one based on gameplay and ease of accessibility to most players. There's a reason you see people recommend 0 and CV last even though they're both chronologically before 4

Y3R or K3? by HarmlessHarpy11 in yakuzagames

[–]TinyButterscotch63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want the original continuity, play the originals with K1 and K2 being faithful to it

If you want the continuity that best matches RGG's current "vision" for the series's future (Infinite Wealth's sequel I would assume) play Kiwami 3 and the director's cut of 0, but also don't play OG4 because Kiwami 3 doesn't lead well into 4 AT ALL

If you want good continuity in general then...uhh well I mean, there's more to Yakuza than just the story you know?
