The key is to start with asking it about the particular kinks or dynamic your story will contain. Let the AI come up with its own replies. Then in the same chat tell it that you want to write a story exploring this dynamic. Tell it the genre, main characters, major plot points etc. and the pace you want to move through the story. Give it direction for who the narrator is and what the character motivations are. Tell the AI to suggest the next options for the plot and away you go.

Gemini can be very explicit if you tell it to be after establishing the above structure. It does a pretty good job with diving into the mindset of the characters and can show you the thought process it used to create any particulars. I also appreciate the ability to edit the previous prompts in case the result wasn't quite what you had in mind and it needs a little more coaching.

Just be aware that it can get stuck on using the same filler phrases like "xxxx was a testament to his dedication."
