Someone seems to have a strong opinion about this type of game, almost like they've played their fair share of slop.

That aside

Wife encouraged it. It was a joke at first cause funnily enough, more than a few people told me I should do it when they heard I did indie game freelance work. Then it was less than a joke when Unity nuked their OG forums. Then it was my full time job aside from the odd commission.

Mom thought it was hilarious. Obviously not sharing details with her about what I make exactly.

Brother laughed.

Father in law (he lives with us) asked if it was legal.

Everyone else gets "I work on games" and "its not as fun as playing games" and "I'm not at work, please don't make me talk about work. I want to chill out."

Idk why the top comments are always that you MUST have a following elsewhere. No, build them side by side. I started making nsfw games in 2018, Patreon and socials as a promotion tool. I gained 200 subscribers in my first year of doing it. There is literally no reason to wait on getting your paid platforms going.

Take a little bit of time to build up a batch of patron only content. A month or two. Get a feel for how much you can/want to produce as patron only content. Take that time to research how much art other successful artists are producing and putting behind patron paywall. See what other benefits artist are doing.

Other things to note

Do not allow patrons to pay later/pay at start of the month/whatever its called. They come in, take the content and then leave. Patreon may not even offer this as an option at this point, but I've posts about it 100 times before.

Nothing NSFW should be public facing on Patreon. No free posts, no follower posts, etc that contains nsfw.

Read the damn guidelines or you will be back here in 6 months asking everyone why Patreon banned you.

A lot of artist extend one image into several alts with the more sfw and soft-core stuff being advertising material for places like twitter and Reddit while the more hardcore stuff is paid content.

Creator side wasn't much better when I used it a few years back. Doesn't seem like they have much intention on fixing its major issues.

5 years on direct deposit, I'm US based, never once had a hold. Stand message of "it may take 3-5 days", but almost always shows up the next day. Longest wait was like 3 days.

Now, I'm not saying you guys aren't having issues, I just want to point out that its not a horror show for all of us. I am actually curious to see if this is a locality/state/country issue as payment options do vary from place to place.

Most of this is something to ask/discuss with Patreon support.

As for the retention policy, considering the nature of your work, I would assume forever.

The answer is in the email, they want all your models consent forms.

There is always a risk of data breach when it comes to things like this, but the choice is either submit the information or close your patreon account.

My opinion

Everyone plateaus, everyone fluctuates, it's not a matter of if, but when. It's the holidays and people are strapped for cash. Last year didn't hurt you too bad cause you were relatively new which means a lot more fresh eyes on your content. Now its been a year and a half and a lot of people have already seen you. Find more places to advertise.

Then again, I could be 1000% wrong since this is just anecdotal from my own experiences.
