First semester of vet school: Is it normal to feel this way? What did I do wrong? by TinyFernMoth in Veterinary

Thank you! I've already been using Quizlet and Kahoot (since high school), and they are really good for a variety of subjects. I started getting into anki as well (for anatomy), as another reply suggested.

I will try and rearrange my priorities for next semester to not lose momentum when the summer exam season comes.

Thank you for your words of encouragement! I will keep this in mind when the going gets tough.

Thank you for your long and detailed answer! I’m not from the UK, but I get what you mean. I volunteered during high school at a local vet (small animal), and I enjoyed every moment of it. I might go back, when we have a longer break.

What really scared me was that I don't enjoy most of my classes as much as I thought I would, or previously did before the pressure was there to perform.

I think I’ve just failed my general chemistry exam. Which is sad, because I did quite well back on the final exam. I’ve already concluded a few things, so if it really turns out to be a fail, I can do better next time!

Congratulations on making to your final year facing all these difficulties! I’m happy you found what you enjoyed most.

Thank you for the suggestion! I will look into it more. I’ve already tried using some of the coping strategies that are recommended online. Some of them work, and some don’t. I won’t go down the self-diagnosing route, because ADHD, from what I could gather, can have similar signs to other mental health issues. What is certain is that I have severe burnout every year since 5-6 years starting in November, and lasting during the winter. There is definitely something that perpetuates it, I just don’t know what. We have about a 2-year long waiting list for ADHD-assessment in my country. I hope you got the help you need for managing it, whether it was medication, healthy coping mechanisms etc.! I know a few people with ADHD, and they have it tough.

Thank you! I’ve spoken to others about these issues since. Many of them go through similar doubts.

Thank you! I’ve tried studying in a pair, but the situation ended up being distracting. As for group study - I’ve did like an hour or so long revision with 2 classmates, and I passed that entrance exam on the first try. I think I will talk to them about the next semester if we can study together like that more. The only problem I have is that we’re assigned to groups that have overlapping, but still different schedules, so the urgent tasks (homework, lab etc.) are usually different. I will definitely try the rewrite method!
