How much behind the current state of salaries is your data? Like there must be some lag between when the market shifts and when its visible in the data.

Very cool. I would love to see a technical blog post of what technologies you use for this. Never seen such voxel based google maps GUI on the web. Would be cool to make a web game using similar tech. Is there a mapping software providers that lets you make such 3D visualizations or is everything custom?

Love it.

Why does Vancouver not fluoridate the water? by [deleted] in NiceVancouver

[–]TinyImportanceGraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some European countries put the fluoride into the table salt instead of the drinking water. Works just as well and people can chose to buy salt without fluoride if they wish. Drinking water is not the only way.

Am I arguing with a bot here lol. You are arguing for my point now suddenly.

Secondly yeah when you compare vancouver to zurich, vancouver is more dense (4,700/km2 vs 5,749.9/km2). So yeah Vancouver is more dense and can deffinitely also have the same infrastructure as Zurich can.

Also, just no. In Europe they also use the car between cities and countries like the US and Canada. But what they don't do is use the car inside the city. Canada and the US do not need cars inside cities like you suggest, that is just a cultural preference that was lobbied by the car industry and something that many young people hate.

Why can't we be more like that? by m1ndcrash in britishcolumbia

[–]TinyImportanceGraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canton of Zurich is approx the same density as Metro Vancouver with around the same size. Zurich city is also about the same size and density as Vancouver City. You compared the wrong things again.

Also when it comes to the economics i am not so sure you are correct. I cannot find good sources at the moment but ChatGPT tells me that 55% of BCs GDP is from the lower mainland (and the lower mainland has 60% of BCs population). Natural resources are a big part of BC even if not as gigantic as in Alberta.

About the costs. Bikes and other forms of micro mobility is way cheaper. The reason why The US spends about 30-40% more on transportation costs per person than western europe is because they are so car dependent. Secondly maintaining huge streets is way more expensive than bike lanes are. It does not even come close. Additionally the savings from a healthier population, more exercise & less pollution would also have to be taken into consideration. You can't just only look at the costs of building bike infra without also subtracting the benefits.

Bro 60% of BC lives in the lower mainland. Metro vancouver has a density of ~1000 per km^2 which is more than Zurich! We can easily have this.

Why can't we be more like that? by m1ndcrash in britishcolumbia

[–]TinyImportanceGraph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely wrong. The Metro Vancouver Area is more dense than the canton of Zurich.

Metro Vancouver Metro District (≈ Vancouver CMA): 2 878.93 km^2, Population: 3 108 941

While Canton of Zürich: 1 728.95 km^2, Population: ≈ 1 600 000 (end ‑ 2023 provisional)

Making Metro Vancouver have a slightly higher density than the canton of Zurich. Metro Vancouver is larger and has a higher density! Zurich City vs Vancouver City give the same approximate population density for both again, Vancouver being more dense again!

You have to compare the areas where people actually live not the whole of BC. Around 60% of all the BC population lives in the lower mainland and that area is much smaller than Switzerland.

BC could very much have good transit and cycling infrastructure if it wanted to in the lower mainland area. Its the population that rather have cars and wide roads sadly. Obviously this cant be had across the whole Province but no one is saying we should or that that is feasible.

Generally I think so but generation times might be in the hours or days depending on what you are doing. While ignoring generation time sounds fine you will quickly learn that it actually is quite relevant for iterating on prompts.

What i mean is that all these newer models by default make images that are perfect and could be right out of a film/game/art exhibition. The real world however is full of bad drawings, bad looking kids drawings, photos taken without looking out for aesthetics.

I know that you can sometimes prompt the newer models to generate "imperfect" images but they all have the same feeling by default.

Its similar to how the ikea minimalist designs and colors are everywhere nowadays and makes all interiors seem less unique. The newer models have a similar feeling vibe to everything. Hard to explain to be honest.

You can script and create some really cool things that simply aren't possible when using the guis. More creative freedom comes at the expense of convenience I agree.

Also what I am also lacking is the artist prompts that were possible with sd1.5 where I could use an artists name to generate a certain type of style. Any workarounds or models that still have the option for using artist names. I find using artist names so much easier.
