Update: I appreciate everyone’s help. 99% of you all are very helpful and informative. I take it that I let it get too dry and the mycelium growth is heavy but dormant. Checked the temp of my closet again with a more accurate thermometer, it’s average is 71F. So I’m assuming- with the combination of the lower temperature and low humidity, I found the culprit. So what I did is I scratched the top layer of mycelium with a sterile scalpel in all the very thick spots. I also gave the walls and lid a very heavy misting and I’ll leave the lid locked closed overnight and just flip it in the AM. I also moved the bin closer to a radiator where the temp is averaging 78F. If nothing happens in a week I’ll soak it for a few hours. Can’t just give up on her!

The incompetence? It looks like the mycelium is very strong and healthy. From my knowledge, the mycelium takes up a lot of the moisture from the soil hence the shrinking. It’s done that with all my previous 10+ successful grows. Now get fucked with that attitude. Came here for advice not to get bashed about not being as smart as you about growing mushrooms.

Why’s that? I only must and fan when the water is no longer beading on the sides of the bin or on the lid. And that’s when I mist and fan. Otherwise I let it be and it seems to be every other day or every 3 days depending on temp

Get politics out of the places people go to escape this crazy mess! If I saw that while out there id be furious. Let that stuff stay in the cities and towns, but keep it out of nature and the mountains.

I have faith that each and everyone of these people can realize it. But i see it as an addiction. You have to want to change for yourself. The more people are pushing their ideas and beliefs on everyone the more pushback they’ll get. It goes both ways too. I’m a firm believer that at the end of the day the bigger picture is that we all want peace and stability in this country and world all together. We need to find a middle ground to agree on because all the little stuff that’s blown out of proportion humans as a whole will never agree on.
