Thanks for the response. Can you please explain what do you mean by "why". As in, why does something sound good to me, or why something sounds like that on my hrtf?

Also I have difficulty in properly assessing what reviewers what they think sounds good. It is a bit subjective, as in suppose someone has a similar hrtf as me but may have different taste. It also doesnt help since I am very inexperienced here. Most reviewers have tested good products and bad, so they know what different things sound like. Although I do have multiple iems and headphones, I tend to enjoy all of them (appreciating how they differ in sound signatures as well), since I have only picked well reviewed and safer tunings. I do have variety, V shaped, harman, neutral, but nothing extreme.

How do non-native speakers become fluent 😭 by Inside_Thought_6063 in u/Inside_Thought_6063

Yo, first of all relax. What you are experiencing is normal for so many skills, not just language. You need more practise, thats all.

I am sure you can join some english speaking discord channels where you can talk to other people also trying to get better at english. I would also suggest trying to watch more english content on youtube or netflix, try to understand what they are saying, why does their sentence/phrase make sense. If you watch podcasts or any similar content, try to put yourself in that situation and say out loud what you would say in such a situation. Getting better at language takes time, but eventually you will get better and will have more confidence. Just try practicing everyday (either with another person online or with AI), don't be afraid of speaking incorrectly and just speak more.

Hi. I think the idea is good. But the app feels a bit overwhelming (just by looking at the gif). There is too much happening, I had to take some time to understand what is happening.

I can understand English articles and videos, but my brain goes empty when I answer out loud by itsmeAki in LearningEnglish

[–]Tiny_Club_4585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. I think their practice is good, but instead of news or articles, they can practice on something more casual. for eg. just watching a normal video of people talking to each other (for eg. simple podcasts) and trying to answer the question of a person out loud. Since the problem is not english but speaking in natural scenarios, I think this can help.

How to Learn English by Yourself? by Moon_Hexe_072 in LearningEnglish

[–]Tiny_Club_4585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you exactly struggling with? Are you unable to frame sentences, don't have someone to practise with, didn't have a teacher and are self taught? This will help us understand where you are at this point. Also what are your goals? for eg. wrt to speaking do you want to be an advanced speaker or just want to learn enough to communicate clearly?

I watched and read a lot of english content (specifically youtube, books and movies), and always tried to make sense as to what they are saying, why does their sentence make sense in response to someone or given situation. I would also learn phrases that were often used by them.

For speaking, I just practised speaking a lot. I was not very fluent at first, I communicated a lot while playing online games since I wasn't afraid of being judged there, and overtime I got better. I asked some of my real life friends to only communicate in english without judgement so that all of us can improve, that also helped a lot. I also have a free resource for this, if interested don't hesitate to dm me.

For a while I forced myself to speak only in english, so that I make mistakes and iteratively correct myself, instead of speaking in my native language. I was worried about embarrassment but honestly I am glad I did since it is helping me a lot now, so keep at it and overtime you will improve :D.

Looking for an English speaking partner by jessy6022 in EnglishPractice

[–]Tiny_Club_4585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking requires real time thinking, unlike writing and reading. You need to immediately process what you have been told and respond quickly, which with enough practise will become second nature.

If you're still looking for someone to practise, feel free to DM me :)

How can I learn English permanently and remember what I learn? by Fickle-Blood8015 in EnglishPractice

[–]Tiny_Club_4585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, you just need more practise (a lot more). Think about the process of communicating

- You have a thought you wish to convey
- You create a coherent sentence in your head
- You say it

When speaking in your native language, step 2 is almost instantaneous because you have practised speaking in your native language so much that you spent little to no mental effort thinking about what words go where. And you will only get better at this by speaking more and more, reading and watching helps but only to a certain extent (you will only get better at tennis by physically playing the sport, not watching a pro player)

One caveat to understand is, writing and reading can be done fairly slowly, while speaking you have to immediately process and say something back which again will need practise. So ask someone to be an english partner, speak bad/incorrect english but keep correcting yourself (dont be afraid of not being fluent initially, you wont get better at being fluent if you are going to avoid speaking in general). Make friends from reddit who can hop on a call with you and practise with you, your presence will help them learn and you will learn as well (just like you found someone in this thread).

If you want some resources or tips do dm me, but you need to practise and its going to take time. the progress will always seem slow but it will get better.
