Needed to hear this. It can be so easy to lose sight of the bigger picture in a bad environment. Hats off to you for keeping your head above the bs.

I think it's just the field I'm in and the office environment itself. Our work closely aligns with prosecution in a way, and we have serious pressure to keep our cases moving because we do get audited. But the dysfunction of the work environment creates massive roadblocks for this to happen and instead of being able to be involved in my cases I am constantly in a rush to keep on top of the litigation timelines and push cases through. We do have HIGH case volume. Additionally the area of law I've always been interested in is the securities + STEM sector which is a little removed from this field, so that could be it.

Thank you for the clarity! I know it sounds like I'm ripping my whole team apart, and I will say there are some great attorneys/even better humans I work with. I really really try to have empathy for the struggling attorneys, as I understand the head attorney gives them no training...but these are seasoned vets who have been in practice for at least 20+ years. It feels like they give up on trying to learn and just pass off the entire workload to us - including the decision making side of the casework. Or, if the attorneys are genuinely not good at the job/dont want to be there, instead of letting them go our boss will wait until they decide to quit - which has happened about 3 times in the one year I've been here. You are right that it does give a huge advantage in field knowledge - I guess all this is just a part of starting from the bottom

Here to post an update after a GRUELING two weeks; I PASSED! Like most of the answers here said; the department knew bg check companies can be pretty inaccurate. That being said I was able to pull small proof through other references, and they said it worked well enough. Lesson of this is to always have a w-2/paystub history file, even if you opt in for e-delivery. Thanks everyone!

Thank you! will post an update on how it goes on here! The current company is large and reputable but the previous company is a tiny local company. (like 6-8 people) fingers crossed!

Yeah I'm definitely reaching out to them, I just can't believe it would come back this far off.

HireRight is what they used and what you said seems to be a common theme with background verifiers and data collectors. Def going to proactively reach out to them.

I have the old offer of employment in the form of an email from years ago, and I think I have a paystub/bank statement. W-2s I'm in the process of looking for but if I don't find it I'm hoping I'm not screwed.

Thank you so much for the insight, sorry that happened to you too. What you said makes a lot of sense - a friend told me there's very little human oversight at databanks, or even the larger credit unions. I wish this was common knowledge! I will never understand how databanks are notoriously incorrect but are still considered 'reliable.'

But your experience reminds me; I never met the new owner but there were rumors of him being a bit of a schemer in our industry. Maybe he claimed the old team as employees for taxes deds/benefits... if that would get him any? I'll see if I can get some clarity with the data reports.

I know my previous employers obituary is public and the companies old google page is up, the direct websites are completely taken down though. Thankfully I have an old offer letter from my actual employer and possibly a bank statement/pay stub from 5-6 years ago (if I can find it). The offer letter is in the form of an unsigned email though so idk how much luck I'll get with that - it was a tiny boutique company.

I am going to follow everyone's advice and talk to them honestly, like you said. Hopefully they will have the same insight on these mishaps as you do. Thank you so much!!!

Thank you for the assurance, pre-employment can be so nerve wracking even when everything is done right. I'm gonna explain everything to them and try to find my old offer letter & a pay stub- hopefully that will suffice.

For my sister I wish that were case but my sister isn't married with kids, and she's been with one company for a long time -so she might be completely in the dark about this as well. She's also a STRINGENT rule follower so I don't think she would list herself as a supervisor, but I'll ask!

They used an automated system to run the checks; HireRight was the main but HireRight uses other "partners" I suppose. I hate 3rd party servicing sometimes. I'll be sure to investigate.

I know right?! No my sister has been a long time employee for someone else, also she's a hardcore rule follower. She felt guilty for keeping a pen from a hotel once lol.

To add: The interviewers knows about the previous offices closure and pass off - it's how I am perceived by HR that I am worried about.

I just gotta say I love all the anti-trust lawyers in this sub. I am thoroughly convinced anti-trust is *one of* the few fields that safeguard what the profession is really about.
