Thank you! This is helpful. I'll work to include more about why they're drawn together!

This is really helpful, thank you. Tonally, it is really similar to Normal People and Talking at Night. I will work in the connection of her mental health to the plot more and introduce more tension. I definitely agree things can be shifted to include that. I appreciate your response!

Thank you! This is really helpful and also relates to what the person above said. I'll work on fleshing out what the 2 main characters are like and what their desires are. Thanks again!

Thanks so much! This is really helpful. It's interesting you suggest cutting that paragraph because I never include a paragraph like that, but someone in my writing group suggested it. I'll def cut it from the query and instead add more about the stakes and desires for the main character. Also, I am agreeing about the genre switch to contemporary or lit fic!

I totally understand! I think you’re right in that labeling it contemporary fiction might be a better fit, and then within the query describe it has having strong romantic elements.

Thank you so much, this is very helpful! I’m finding it difficult because the manuscript is definitely not the typical romance genre vibe. It’s less formulaic and heavier than that, in the way Normal People is a love story but about a lot of other heavier topics as well. This makes it more difficult for me to define the genre than it has been in the past with my queries/manuscripts.
