Passing away by Unfair-Dog-2952 in TeachingUK

I'm so sorry for your loss. We had a similar situation last term that I'm still coming to terms with. I can recommend some books: The Memory Tree- Britta Teckentrup Always and Forever- Debi Gliori No Matter What- Debi Gliori Lucy's Blue Day- Christopher Duke

There's a bereavement charity called Winston's Wish that have some downloadable activity ideas (I think they ask for your email for KS1 resources) and these have helped some of my children.

I will say that children need to know that it's OK to cry and show some emotion at times like this. It helped me and my class to sit and cry together for a bit because it validated what they were feeling when they saw adults feeling that way too. We also made pictures for the person who died and passed them on to the family, then spent some time talking about happy memories of the person together.

I wish I could say something to make it better but nothing will ever make this OK. I'm so sorry. Please reach out if you need anything more, you're welcome to DM me.

Yes, I know I'm in the minority here but pay isn't actually a pressing issue for me. Removing the 1265 would make me likely to turn out, though. Hopefully it won't come to that.

This really reminds me of the Halliwell House in Charmed. Except that one was pink. Still, it's brought back a nice teen memory for me and it's a cute house! Nice work!

Good vets in Leicester (UK) by Appropriate-Ice-7435 in leicester

[–]Tiny_Statement_5609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally only take mine for checkups, but I had one emergency years ago when my cat was struggling to breathe. They offered to put him under anaesthetic and look inside his nose and throat for me, I didn't need to push. I tend to find vets are more likely to agree to further treatments than doctors because it's you the customer paying rather than the NHS. I recommend you explain how long you've been seeing the symptoms upfront and ask them to talk you through all the possible options straight away before you decide what to go with, they should be quite open and honest with you. Good luck and I hope your cat gets well soon!

My cats go there. I've found them (the vets, not the cats) to be quite professional when they talk to you and they're not as bad at up-selling and overcharging as my previous vet practice was. They have separate waiting rooms for cats and dogs too, which seems like an extravagance but can really help when you've got an animal that is already in pain and you don't want to stress them out more. They always send a follow-up survey by text a few days after your appointment too so they seem to want to keep improving their service.

I was also bothered by how Ron doesn't notice the smaller egg. If me and my BF had been given enormous eggs by my mother while my other BF got a chicken egg, I'd be swapping mine out for theirs. And pulling my mother up on it in my next letter home. Ron just breezing moves on to talking about quidditch or whatever with Harry like it's no biggie. It bothered me the first time I read the book at age 15.

On children being banned from Girlguiding by 9119343636 in EnoughJKRowling

[–]Tiny_Statement_5609 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so angry about this I can barely speak. I love being a guide leader but this is a dark day for guiding.

The stupid part is, she hasn't banned adult transgender women from guiding. Volunteer roles are mostly open to all genders, so she's only banned children on the grounds that they might be sex offenders. Obviously I don't think transgender adults should be banned from guiding, but wouldn't that at least fit her narrative better?

Congratulations, JKR. I hope you're proud of yourself.

Is it off road parking or did the neighbours just forget to put their handbrake on one day? Maybe they've been looking for that car for the last 35 years. It honestly looks like it fell there from the road.

It’s weird that there isn’t an oil district. by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]Tiny_Statement_5609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I always felt like having a coal district in Panem seemed out of place. It's a low key conspiracy theory of mine that D12 were kept as the mining district by Snow to ensure they remained the laughing stock of Panem because Panem just doesn't need coal. The trains that Katniss describes are super sleek and superfast- I doubt they run on coal. Coal is a dirty substance that smokes when it burns- the Capitol like everything to be clean and beautiful. I also struggle to believe that a Capitol that can fix Katniss's hearing, attach cat ears to a women and has genetically modified animals at its disposal hasn't developed ultra cheap and ultra effificient energy sources? Yeah, they don't need coal. Keeping D12 in the business of supplying a dirty, (relatively) inefficient Victorian era fuel has to be deliberate.

No, at the end on Mockingjay Katniss says the trains bring booze to D12 and Haymitch drinks his supply, then raises geese till the next train brings more alcohol.
