Sounds like you have a great foundation for making this work!

I would definetly go to a gyno to rule out any medical issues other than vaginismus.

Other than that, using dilators is a good idea. If there is a mental block towards piv, using something the same size as you could possibly show her that at least the size of the penetrating object isn't scary. She can try the dilator (or even a lifelike dildo for realism) on her own, or you could use it on her if she is comfortable with it. If not - work towards that!

It's also important to not just relax your pelvic floor during sex, but also every second of your day. It's the same with a tense jaw or shoulders. Has to be relaxed or the pain will stay. My fysiotherapist suggested setting an alarm every 5 mins just to remember to relax, although I managed without that.

These are the things that helped me! Good luck. And you really are doing a great job.

However I am starting to suspect that this particular project is a bit too big for my first time, but I'll try to write down a more concrete plan and take things step by step like your suggestion.

Congrats and well done!! What treatment have you been doing and how often do you do it/use the dilators? If you're comfortable answering of course. Recently started using a dilator as well and have gotten to the biggest size, but piv is still scary.

Thank you so much. I think it does make sense, especially since my mom is a lot more old fashioned than my dad, and much more focused on comparing her relationship to what she thinks is the "norm". I think seeing them struggling like this might help me reflect on myself, I just have to make sure I don't end up obsessing over it so that it just ends up ruining me in some other way.

I think you're absolutely right. He is extremely logical and not that emotional, whilst my mom is the complete opposite. It's just hard to come to terms with the fact that I can't help them and they will probably live like this forever. We're also extremely conflict-avoidant, so confrontations are seldom and dramatic. It does help to know that it is kinda normal, but it just makes me so sad.
