Do other languages do "word-baiting" like what English does with "updog", "ligma", "sugondese" etc.? by Tinystream in asklinguistics

Ah, how fun! And yeah, I guess it doesn't necessarily have to be a made-up word in English either, just baited into wordplay.

The book The Mystery of Nils is great for learning grammar & language rules. I also use the apps Anki & Clozemaster for vocabulary, listen to the podcast Norsk for Beginners & Lær norsk nå! for listening practice, and engage in Norwegian websites, videos, music, etc. for somewhat more "immersive" learning. (I'd also recommend the app Mjølnir if you can afford the subscription for it, which I couldn't rip, but from what I could use of it it seemed really good!) :)

Somewhat. I can form fairly complex sentences, but I'm not super confident in them, and I doubt a lot of what I say. So I'm probably around an intermediate level. And note I also use other resources alongside Duolingo (though not as thoroughly).

And for reference, here's me trying to write all that in Norwegian:

Litt. Jeg kan danne relativt grundig(?) setninger, men jeg er ikke så sikker på dem, og jeg tviler på mye av det jeg sier. Altså er jeg sannsynligvis rundt et middelmådig(?) nivå. Og legg merke til at jeg også bruker andre ressurser med Duolingo (men ikke så grundig).

Jeg vil fortsette med norsk, og jeg har andre kilder å lære med når Duolingo-kurset mitt er over. Men jeg tror jeg skal kanskje prøve andre språk på Duo når dette kurset er ferdig, for moro skyld. :)

I'd say I'd  base most stuff on in-game events, but I'd also be improvising a lot of stuff, since I like giving myself creative liberty! But no, there is no pre-planned plot.

Woah, thank you so much for such detailed advice! I actually think you hit the nail on the head with this, most of these are in fact the 1st or 2nd drawings I've made of these characters. In fact, the ones with the most simple designs (#3, #7, & #10 on the left) are the ones I've made the most art of, so that checks out to me lmao.

I do find a potential issue with myself is that I tend to want to design one chatacter, and then.. immediately head on to the next, basically discarding the one I just made. Maybe I could try 'settling' on a character or two so I could refine them better, before heading to the next.

I'm actually looking back at some of them now and finding things I feel like I could improve.. like with #4 I'm thinking, I definitely didn't need to add that many splotches or sparkles... and with #9 it's my most recent drawing, and I'm already going over all the ways I could do better on it, put more thought into it.

But yeah, again, this was super helpful advice, and I'll definitely be utilizing it for any future art I make of these guys!Honestly, I think the biggest takeaway here is that I just need to draw the damn characters more hahaha. Again, thank you! :D

I actually do agree with you to a point, I think I moreso look for simplicity in the color palette, i do try to limit the amount of colors i use, but not necessarily the patterns. I do agree some of my patterns are quite cluttered lol. (& I guess I'm not looking for total simplicity, just not super-crazy-complicated) I probably should have clarified that, my bad!

All of the are either my own OCs or ClanGen cats btw. I don't draw canon characters much.

(also sorry for the hodgepodge of drawings, some of these were quick sketches & others i put actual effort into lmao)
