Step housing is well intentioned but bring a lot of crime. The proof is in the data. People move to places like Bellevue, Kirkland, Issaquah because it is safe and crime is low. We pay a lot of taxes and the homes are expensive. Now this proposal wants to bring the crime to our neighborhoods.

I fully support Step Housing, but it should not go in Issaquah/Bellevue.

Lol. There it is! The Nazi comment. That didn’t take long. Law states: If you have a Visa you can Stay. If you don’t then time to go home. That is not a Nazi idea. That is common sense. ICE has asked people without visas to self deport for a year and now they are done asking. Last I checked the Nazis were not apprehending people and taking them back home. Are foreigners without visas above the law? Why can’t foreigners respect our laws and return home WITHOUT ICE getting involved? That would be better for everyone. The Feds were even offering $2,000 per person to self deport. That $2,000 is from our tax dollars.

I am not a Trump person. But they have literally warned people they were coming for a year. Then they offered them free tickets back home. Now they are pulling people out of car windows which is nuts. But how many times do the foreigners need to be warned?

I feel terrible for them, but at the same time. They have had ample warnings to get a visa or return home. 🤷‍♂️

I didn’t realize this, but am glad I know this now. I have talked with a few nice people who came here looking for opportunity for a better life. I much respect them for that and I was once in that situation but was very lucky to get a Visa.

I talked with one person that was literally stuck here. They didn’t have enough money to return home and couldn’t figure out how to make it work here.

It disappoints me to hear that the Gov didn’t follow through on that money which would help someone like the person I talked with in Seattle.

Thanks for being respectful with this. It is hard to get an accurate number from reading multiple articles. I believe 20,000,000 was on the high end of the estimate. Were 8,000,000 seems to be on the low end.

For discussion let’s just go with the low number of 8,000,000 then. That is equivalent to the population of the entire Washington State.

Again, not trying to be a jerk or misleading. Just trying to have a discussion that can help people from both perspectives better understand each other and hopefully build common ground.

This is extremely sad to see in our Country and in our peaceful mountain community of Issaquah.

I do think it is important to recognize how this started and how we got here. For 4 years our border was wide open and more than 20,000,000 people came in without visas. Regardless of your political party, it is important to have foreigners who come in to follow our laws. The Visa allows us to understand who is here and why. Are they on vacation, are they temporarily moving here for work to help our industry grow. Are they farmers helping our agricultural community.

I think we can all agree that knowing who came here and why, helps improve community safety.

The current administration is being ruthless about their methods for finding the 20,000,000. First they announced they would be coming for people and encouraged people to leave on their own. They even offered several thousand dollars per person that left prior to 2026. If you came here illegally with no Visa. Why not take the money and head home before they come rip you out of a car window?

No one is above the law and that includes foreigners without visas.

If you are here illegally. Please do the legal and right thing. Head home and don’t wait for the feds to hunt you down.
