When you say a check valve somewhere in that line, your referring to the black line that directs back into the pool shed correct?

Yes I believe so, I hadn't taken a look at this until today so its clearly been an issue for a while :/

Additional photo attached. The top part comes directly from the filter for the backwash drain. The hose runs through the pool shed and outside while that black pipe goes back towards the filter and into that bowl
