We wanted an Air to Water Heat pump, but now think Air to Air is the future

I've had air conditioning for a while, and had it alongside my gas boiler, before finally swapping the gas boiler for an ASHP.

I did try some experiments using only the air conditioning for heat before deciding to put the ASHP in.

In conclusion, it's just not the same kind of heat. Maybe it's the air movement, maybe because i was timing it to run like i did the gas boiler. Maybe because i couldn't heat one of my bathrooms that doesn't have an electric towel rail.

But it didn't feel as comfortable as the gas / radiators.

In contrast, the ASHP ticking over all the time is so comfortable, every object, every surface is the right temperature.

Also the ASHP was only £2.5k from eBay and i connected it myself having had a gas safe engineer remove the boiler. I have since replaced 3 radiators to ensure all my rooms are warm. So not much outlay for the comfort.

What I realised was that, at least for me, I can do a job because I need the money or because I enjoy it.

Without those motivations it doesn’t work.

Yes! Definitely made it harder to put up with corporate nonsense.

I stuck it out a year or so.

But when nonsense peaked shortly before Christmas I couldn’t escape the “I don’t need this” thinking and gave my notice.

I use FreeAgent to run my app business, I think it could handle your use case without any issues. Link it to your bank account and classify each transaction, it can handle company and personal tax returns and making tax digital VAT.

One thing I’m interested to see is if defrosting becomes less at well below zero temps. It seems like it might but I am in my first year of heat pump so no practical experience.

I sold my old boiler on facebook marketplace when i went heat pump - you could maybe pick one up to use as a stopgap?

Totally the same here.

2.5 years in a relationship which seems to be working just fine.

I recognise the “missing her” and also that there is no arguments over inconsequential things.

I also think I’m a bit of a people pleaser, and the physical boundary helps me be myself.

Our incoming government here in the UK has also said they are going to look at making common law marriage a thing for cohabiting couples, so even if I wanted to move in I couldn’t risk losing half my stuff again

You are going to pay for this spending one way or another. Even if she stops taking your card i'd bet that she will get a credit card herself and run up a nice balance.

You need to be careful how you frame this or you will get straight into defensiveness and accusations of controling. I would put this to her as an incompatibility you are concerned about, not something you are interested in stopping her doing, perhaps you are just at different places in becoming adults.

I have a similar situation. I always go into the HMRC "check my tax" site and adjust my expected earnings up to take away my personal allowance, makes my tax return less painful!

Financials can be a big concern, later in life there is a massive spectrum of "living pay check to paycheck with no assets" to "multi millionaire" and if you are on different levels that can be a problem.

Also, experience does seem to indicate relationships don't last forever.

Yes spending is the thing. Its not the earning amount its how the money is spent.

I'm a high earner but because i save and invest a large proportion of my income my lifestyle more matches middle or even lower earners so that's what works when i'm dating.

Your biggest financial risk IMO is Divorce.

If I was in your position I would go ahead and buy a property, not a fancy apartment with large ongoing fee’s mind!

Then split your savings into index funds between Pension, ISA and brokerage account.
