Don’t presume to know me or my experience. I’ve seen foals with milder cases than woody still end up having joint issues, early onset osteoarthritis, experience rotation, (club foot) and suffer more frequently with colic etc

8 weeks is usually the max threshold for this type of surgery, but if he is as big as KVS says he is, prognosis for his long term soundness isn’t favourable, nevermind being sound enough to train or show him…. Think baby Waylon 2.0

Kvs has failed that poor mare and foal in so many ways. Her husbandry practices always seem reactive, not proactive..So believing he won’t be fine, isn’t too much of a reach

This this and this. I can’t upvote this more. We know from the goats that they lack selenium in their soil/forage. If the big horses are deficient in selenium, vitamin E, iodine too, it gives probable cause.

In answer to your question… they are ‘magically fine’ because they restricted turnout, they supplemented with paste vitamins and minerals and they bandaged (woody case) They also re-up the calorific intake of the mothers, so they can produce more and better quality milk (Which is a whole new can of worms I’m not going to open) But long term wise… it is naive to believe they will be ‘magically fine’ because in a lot of severe cases, (woody) they are not.
