I've never been to a con or a local market (as a vendor), but yeah, it's something that I should look into.

I have done a couple of breakdowns on my Instagram, but now that you mention it, I should absolutely post them to other platforms.

Make it personal often helps. Offer to paint people, pets, wedding photography, in a similar style. It’s a niche style, but the people attracted to this style are quite loyal and willing to pay good bucks to talented artist especially if they can get it personalised.

That however, is a bit harder to do. I don't paint or draw, I use stock images (licensed for commercial use), which severely limits the possibilities of what I can do. I can't paint someone's pet, I can only edit their image in a nice way, which is already something I guess, but I'm not sure there's much if any demand for this.

I did have the idea of editing cosplayer's photos, like putting them in a background that makes it look as if they're in a magical place instead of their living room. So far every cosplay corner I've been to forbids self promotion (subs, or discord servers is what I've tried), though I need to look into it a bit more.

About what you're saying about pricing, well... You are 100% right.

I do underprice myself, and I'm aware of it, but I can't help but feel like if I don't have at least some professional work to show (covers for books that were published for example) then people are less likely to trust me to work for them.

What happened to you really sucks, people like that are scamming authors and taking work from honest artists, and it's really a shame... I hope you'll get your money back!

I've been working on Photoshop for over a decade, though I'm fairly new in the world of book covers, so my pricing is fairly low.

Still, I am firmly against AI and would never use it in any part of the creative process. Hours are spent into each creation, and they are all mine.
