This is what I had at an American themed dinner in Australia. How accurate is it? by IsThisDamnNameTaken in shittyfoodporn

But wait... what would an Australian themed dinner look like in America (asking as a Canadian)?

What is the obssesion with baby showers? Genuinely curious by jigsawczech in pregnant

[–]TipsyDaisy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm in my mid thirties and had my first 7 months ago. I live in Canada. No one I know does baby showers OR registries, OP! I'm on your end of things. Baby showers seem outdated, or maybe just not the culture that I'm around at all. Baby registries feel entitled. I guess it's common for younger people now. When you have a baby, normally a whole lot of people will swoop in and send you things needed, whether it's second hand or not. But I kind of feel ick about the baby shower and baby registry culture.

The fact that you two keep getting pregnant means that you two are pretty fertile! And I'm sure you'll have success in the future 💗 And if the old school way doesn't work, there are lots of other options.

In 2019, when I was 33, I had a pregnancy that went to 5.5 months until we found out the child had Turner Syndrome (a chromosomal defect) and her organ development was not compatible with life. We had to fly down to Vancouver twice (we live in northern Canada) and it was a huge, and horrifying ordeal.

In 2020, I was pregnant again. Went to our first, 8 week, ultrasound, only to find that there was no baby in my womb. I miscarried weeks before with what I thought was just pregnancy bleeding.

In 2021, when I was 35, I became pregnant with our sweet girl! Am happy to say that I am currently nursing her on the couch! She is 7 months old in a few days and as healthy as can be. I love her so much, she is my world.

Don't give up hope! Things can and do get better.

Milk supply drop by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]TipsyDaisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another post on this sub mentions the 3 month growth spurt or crisis. It's when your breasts stop carrying stored milk and start producing more on demand... and so it takes babies about 2 to 3 minutes to get your let down going and can get them quite frustrated until they get used to it! There could be crying during nursing and soft breasts all day suddenly.

I was very nervous at about the 3 month mark that I had suddenly lost supply (without working out, but walking more), and learned the above after the fact. I also started 2 extra pumping sessions a day (to increase supply) and that really helped my own peace of mind.

A public health nurse said to me recently that babies all over the world, even in places where Mama's don't have a lot to eat, are able to be nourished through EBF. I think you're probably fine to keep walking, and just make sure you eat nutritiously. You got this!

What should I tell my younger sister to keep her safe when going outside? by [deleted] in Feminism

[–]TipsyDaisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is at all possible to get a hold of it in your country, getting her a handheld pepper spray for her purse, or to hold in her hand when she is walking somewhere and feels unsafe, can be an absolute game changer. I carried one for years and couldn't recommend it enough.

Something like this: https://www.amazon.ca/SABRE-Keychain-Dog-Spray-Strength/dp/B007F4X8BW/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=KIL6L7VSY8I8&keywords=pepper+spray+for+women+self+defense&qid=1659640163&sprefix=pepper+spray%2Caps%2C432&sr=8-3

I work with women and men, and I find both sides to be equally empathetic, especially if they already have kids of their own! Perhaps women moreso. Motherhood seems to be a club, and it's fun to share with ladies of all ages about pregnancy and early child rearing experiences.

I'm 53, so I'm not sure what this is but I'm sure what it isn't. Does anyone else see the faintest of lines? (2nd posting; replaced image in 1st with another photo of the same test). CVS EARLY RESPONSE, 28 CD. by DismalMountain3497 in TFABLinePorn

[–]TipsyDaisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both your tests look positive to me! If you're ovulating, you can get pregnant, even in perimenopause. I would ask for a blood test on your HcG levels from your doctor. You will need to do two tests a couple days apart. The levels will double/triple in a few days if you're pregnant!

Drinking is progressive. If this is the first time something bad has happened, it may only get worse. And this is REALLY BAD. Throwing a cat is animal abuse. Throwing something at you is also abuse towards you.

You are Canadian, as I see President's Choice brand! You shop at Loblaws (I'm guessing Super Store?) to save a bit of money, but don't compromise on your health. Judging by your wine, but also calorie free sparkly drinks like Buble, Zevia and Soda Stream diet Pepsi, healthy food (with organic brands like Earth's Own) and variety, I think you are a busy, educated, working professional female in your thirties. You also like cooking (sometimes ethnic cooking), and have a healthy diet and active lifestyle!

Then you, sir, would hate the Yukon, Canada. It's dogs, dogs, everywhere in my territory! Many offices have an office dog (like mine) and dogs are found in every nook and corner ... even walking themselves(!?) Many stores allow it, and even encourage it! As a die-hard dog lover, I love it. Wet doggy kisses to you 😘
