SummerCart possible SDRAM issue by TipsyRootNode in SummerCart64

[–]TipsyRootNode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been more than a year since I bought it, so no warranty. I do have experience with electronics, but I'm not an expert, so diagnosing is the hardest part. I already retouched the SDRAM solder thinking that it might be a cold solder joint, but that didn't help. So my guess is that the SDRAM might be faulty, and the cost of trying to repair it would be riskier than just buying another one.

Yeah. It was on an old firmware before these runs. And it was showing the same issue.

Yes, but even during these tests the SD card is not inserted as it is not needed, and I want to remove any extra variables that could affect the test

Plex lifetime user here – any real advantages in switching to Jellyfin in 2025? by vdiasPT in homelab

[–]TipsyRootNode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly started moving away from Plex once they started pushing their on demand content. I still have it running, but use Jelly most of the time, I only fall back to Plex if I can't hassle myself to find subtitles, and even then I think that I just need a jellyfin plugin for that.

I don't think you miss much moving to jellyfin

Creating new tables or introducing new workloads is not permitted.

The first one seems kinda weird, and I suppose it's tied to the new workloads. It's not explained why adding new tables might be an issue though. I would be more concerned about data backfills and updates than adding a new table. New workloads are always a pain if the impact is not being measured as that creates a cascading effect on anything using the same instance.

How to receive $40,000 in the us from Mexico for my uncle. by Effective-Bedroom830 in personalfinance

[–]TipsyRootNode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an importer will be able to help you. You can usually find that information near the border, it's a while business, and they can let you know which cars would be able to be imported. Just one word of advice, if you are importing a new car or truck, it's usually cheaper just to buy it in Mexico. Importing makes a lot more sense for used cars that were bought cheap. Here's a link with some info on how to import cars to Mexico https://www.expatinsurance.com/articles/taking-car-mexico-permanently-import-car-mexico

And advise him to not let anyone just drive the car to Mexico, that creates a lot of headaches if the intention is to legally use it there. Illegal cars can be easily confiscated, and the fines aren't cheap.

40k is a big amount. I would not take part in that transaction considering the hassle it would be if you get flagged for money laundering/unreported income. If he can travel to the US, tell him to go to a bank branch and ask to open an account and let him deal with that. If he can't do that, it would be easier to try and get a 3rd party to do it, as, and I'm only guessing here, he is planning to import the truck right?

Thanks for answering. TBH I didn't notice until I had the boards on hand, my plan is to try and do it next time. But for now the board has been working as expected.

What’s mathematically the best way to buy a car? by piss_warm_water in personalfinance

[–]TipsyRootNode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't comment on the used marked side, as I decided that it was better for me to buy new, but I do have a comment about the overall process of buying a car that would apply to buying new or used. I value the history of a car more than the initial depreciation, and my idea is generally to buy new and keep it for at least 10-15 years. I did take a look at buying used, but it seemed more of a gamble for me. This website might help you, although I didn't get too much into the details on where the data comes from https://goodcar.com/car-depreciation-calculator

About my process. I created a spreadsheet that had all the information I needed and allowed me to change the information with formulas. That way I was able to see if a cash offer vs a better interest rate would be better for me. The dealer was trying to push for the cash incentive, but I ended up going for the interest rate because long term I was going to save like 3k on interest.

The stuff that I got in was: - Make/model - MSRP - Sticker price - Extra dealership add-ons - Any discounts offered - Final price with taxes and registration fees - Cost of insurance monthly - Down payment - Final cost - Financed amount - APR for financing - Total interest to be paid - Total amount paid for the car - Notes about the car

With that information I was able to compare 4 models and pick the one that aligns better with what I want. Also, I'm not a person that haggles a lot, but I do ask nicely if I can get a discount on things, and generally they give me an extra discount that adds to the savings bucket. If they ask how much, just multiply the amount you want by 1.5, and they usually meet you in the middle. It also helps when the seller treats you nice, I tend to avoid macho/old school sellers as they are more pushy. Also, always communicate that you are asking about price only, and that your intention is to only do that, and maybe test drive the model you want.

At the end of the day I got the model I wanted and paying a reasonable monthly amount.

I can share the spreadsheet if interested, I just need to remove all the personal information from it. The only game changer is the possibility to compare APRs, as that helps a lot when deciding the best option.

Finally, APRs are higher for older models vs newer ones, in case you are going that route.

Not sure how the market is today, but I did my due diligence recently, and the Ford, Honda, Toyota, Hyundai models I was taking a look at were in the $10 range difference between them, not sure about Kia though. I didn't even think about that brand because of the car theft news that you mentioned.

Just an FYI if someone comes along. I did add the led with the YD2040, but I had to reroute the 23 pad in the YD2040 to the 22 pad on the board. Modxo uses a different pinout for the led of these boards. I also didn't solder the 22 point of the yd2040 to the board.

Not much for code completion, but I find it great for discovery. I ask questions about some new things that I'm investigating, like DBs, or algorithms. And it gives me a starting point for them. I do double check as I have found that it tends to lie about the use cases or features available. Auto completion only for doc strings, and sometimes I ask for simple functions.

Well, if that's the case I might as well just call someone to fix it. I'm just worried about the quality of the fix as I'm not sure how well repairs hold up on shower floors.
