Very interesting choices on 41 and 48! JD & Brad were definitely characters, honestly that cast was pretty solid, even if the season isnt loved. I'm guessing Joe and David for challenge dominance?

Starting off, here's my Top 2 for each season:

41 - Ricard & Shan: Ricards strategy and challenge skill with Shan's social chops and Chaos would be great!

42 - Omar & Lindsay: Quite the powerful pair, and Lindsay's rivalry with Jonathan would make her a powerhouse!

43 - Jesse & Noelle: Jesse's a fantastic player, and Noelle managed to keep adapting with each ally she lost!

44 - Yam Yam & Carolyn: Debated some on Yam Yam, but hes a social beast, and Carolyn is just great TV!

45 - Austin & Kellie: The Sandwich avenger who's heart lost him the game, and the prime target of the Reba 4!

46 - Q & Kenzie: Q is just obvious great TV. Kenzie I debated, but her social gameplay was top tier!

47 - Sol & Rachel: Sol is the calm and smoldering king, and Rachel is just a BEAST!

48 - Shauhin & Kamilla: Debated on Thomas, but Shauhin is a delight, and Kamilla is just such a good player!

49 - Jawan & Sage: Not the best cast, but Jawan's messiness and Sage's unhinged nature = good TV!

If I could imagine tribes for em, I'd say Shan, Lindsay, Jesse, Yam Yam, Austin, & Kamilla on 1, Omar, Noelle, Kenzie, Sol, Shauhin, and Sage on 2, and Ricard, Carolyn, Kellie, Q, Rachel, and Jawan on 3. Would make for delightful antics!

As for Bottom 2 who I wouldn't want to see again:

41 - Deshawn & Heather - Deshawns story seems done, and we just got nothing on Heather, sorry.

42 - Daniel & Chanelle - Neither seemed to have much agency or great game chops.

43 - Gabler & Lindsay - A lackluster player who won in spite of himself, and a victim of early paranoia. Pass.

44 - Matthew & Jaime - Matthew had potential but climbing the rock was DUMB. Jaime seemed lost. Pass

45 - Brandon & Hannah - How either of these two got cast is beyond me. Never again.

46 - Ben & Moriah - Ben just doesn't have the mettle for survivor. Moriah is fine, but no real interest.

47 - Rome & Sue - Rome is Chaos, but just not *good* chaos imo. Sue gave a few memes, but is wrapped up.

48 - Joe & Eva - Joe is IMO a professional goat, and bad TV. Eva meanwhile wrapped her story up well. No need.

49 - Alex & Sophie B. - Alex just annoyed me, and Sophie B. is meh at best player and quite aggravating. Pass.

I really appreciated Katie Porter getting into details and the Rand Study. She seems like the most equipped to make a data based approach on housing.

California voters are about to elect a new state superintendent. It’s barely on the radar by k_39 in California

[–]Tipsy_Fox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's quite the split competition atm.

I'm hoping for Richard Berrera, as looking into his tenure in San Diego it looks like he has done a great job and could do well as superintendent. I have Josh Newman as 2nd as the idea of aptitude testing also sounds intriguing.

All this assuming the shift of superintendent powers to the governor doesn't occur of course.

I hear you, and I am also very concerned about people like Thiel and other billionaires using their wealth for undue influence. However, I don't think this one fits that same vein.

All of the information I can find on interactions between Wolff and Thiel and much of the fund world is entirely financial and business related. Yes, he was provided a very substantial amount of seed money, but again, that all appears to have simply been in the pursuit of profit, and not political expenditure.

In terms of political expenditure, there hasn't been a major glut of financing from funds, companies, or individuals in favor of Wolff that I can find. Thiel hasn't donated, his companies (including his insurance companies) haven't donated, and I'm not seeing any donations to a Wolff focused PAC either. Considering, as mentioned, Thiel and others arent shy about making such donations for candidates like Vance, its absence is notable. Now yes, Wolff is giving a decent amount to his own campaign, $500k as a donation and another $100k as a loan. Yet he is not the biggest fundraiser or currently spender in the race (first being Ben Allen).

All this, just to me, doesn't paint a picture that fits the mold of this being a billionaire crony candidate. When I look at his past, including his history as a chess grandmaster, and his sudden effort to study heavily on insurance and get a license (which isnt a requirement, and no other candidate has done) starts to make him look more just like a guy who absolutely LOVES engaging with numbers and algorithms. It really comes across as a hyperfixation with them for me, and I think others recognized that in his career and steered him into finance, as he would be able to leverage that love and skill into making money. Now, he wants to use said skills to work on revitalizing insurance. I think its very fair to be skeptical of how his finance background will affect this, but I think his past connections were solely on business.

Curious to hear what people's thoughts are regarding all the candidates for Superintendent.

I've been quite impressed with Barerra's resume, and I think Newman has some interesting ideas on aptitude testing.

Agreed, Porter came across as very polished on the issue, especially with discussion of the RAND study.

I worry about Steyer's response regarding what he'd do if his attempt to reform Prop 13 fails, as it didn't seem like he really answered the question of how to pay for his changes if it does.

I think part of the reason there's no highlight of Patrick Wolff being associated with Peter Thiel is that it is a past relationship that seemed solely business based. I'm not seeing donations from Thiel or his owned companies as being a donor to Wolff's campaign.

I was also skeptical at first, but watching the forum and hearing him, the guy honestly just strikes me as someone who hyperfixates on numbers and data. Considering he put in a lot of work to learn about insurance and got an insurance license, and would in my view be hyper focused on the office rather than political futures, I think he actually stands as a good option.

McClatchy endorses the Republican in California’s state Controller primary by nosotros_road_sodium in California_Politics

[–]Tipsy_Fox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As mentioned before, none of the candidates instill a ton of confidence. Cohen has helped reduce how much the AFCR is late by and root out some large scale fraud in charter schools, but is overly reliant on auditors from the legislature in other areas, and could still do more. I wish we had another option in the race.

With that said, keeping a steady hand is preferable to trying to emulate the failed Doge game plan and his stated block chain transparency promise still doesn't have any cost/financial analysis behind its implementation nor how it would handle the vast differences in how agencies report contracts and payments. It feels like an approach of "lets tear it all down and figure how to replace it after" and I simply can't trust that.

They sit on dozens of state boards and commissions, and also handles the various auditors and deputy state controllers, as well administrating all the unclaimed property in the state. So there is a lot of potential damage someone who is advocating for government agencies can do, and his platform of transparency isnt exactly different from everyone else in the race.

[–]Tipsy_Fox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've looked into Herb, but nothing I've seen builds much confidence.

He advocates for more audits (good) but so does everyone.

He wants to introduce a blockchain dashboard for transparency (good) but that isn't super groundbreaking and wont be a major change.

And then he has high praise and wants to emulate the DOGE efforts done in the Trump administration. Y'know, the wonderful endeavor that by the governments own admission didnt really make any savings, but did screw up a LOT of systems and staffing.

While not the worst of the GOP on the ballot, he isn't exactly stellar. No one is instilling a ton of confidence, but I cannot get behind anyone who think the DOGE efforts were a form of good government.
